"Oxford won the toss and elected to start from the Middlesex station." Add at the end that it left Cambridge with the Surrey station.
"Cambridge's cox Morland called for a push to defend their course; the crews clashed oars." It doesn't sound right to me. Can you remove the semi-colon and replace with: "Causing the crews to clash oars."?
