Extensive use of primary sources

[edit]

This page is extensive and with an extensive number of references to go with that. A large amount of primary sources are currently used in this page. As of time of this post, I counted only about three sources that are totally secondary a few additional that are questionable since in one way or the other they're not totally independent from the LDS Church. I just saw WP:LDS/RS which clarifies a lot of things. For what I thought was primary sources, the usage is conditional: "It might be used for uncontroversial self-descriptions, but avoid using it as a source for exceptional claims. In general, a secondary source with a stronger consensus for reliability is preferred." Consequently, the context of how it's used has to be taken into consideration.
While a secondary source with stronger consensus is preferred, glancing through this, I'm seeing these sources (Newsroom, Church News, etc.) used for less controversial self-descriptions and not exceptional claims. I would like another opinion on the matter before removing the tag. Thanks!-- Dmm1169 (talk) 02:21, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

potential COI

[edit]

My husband's family is from South Africa, and Lionel Helps, my grandfather-in-law, was a temple president there. My parents-in-law were active members in the LDS Church in Durban and in other cities. None of the references I used mentioned the Helps family though. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 15:47, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at COI criteria, it seems as long as you're bringing up factual information related to the topic, using independent sources and not talking about friends/family or using their journals, I think you're ok. Thanks - Dmm1169 (talk) 04:51, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
