Sieging police station

[edit]

Should we have a one lined paragraph stating that police stations are surrounded by protesters and people just lived nearby almost daily? Matthew hk (talk) 15:53, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, of course. And also here too: Tactics and methods surrounding the 2019 Hong Kong anti-extradition bill protests#Police station blockades Thanks. 65.60.163.223 (talk) 06:56, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I made a brief mention on the page linked above about tactics and methods. Will look for an English-language citation to include. 65.60.163.223 (talk) 23:02, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Matthew hk: What news articles have you seen that have stories about this? Thanks. 65.60.163.223 (talk) 04:08, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Since the explosion of information, you can check https://news.mingpao.com/insindex.htm, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCChMBgirwM2nnT3Bbe8METQ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeqUUXaM75wrK5Aalo6UorQ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6of7UYhctnYmqABjUqzuxw and https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/latest-news/local.htm. Which literally every day many police stations are garrisoned by police. Protesters, from 10 to hundreds are "besieging" the station. When this became a routine, i really don't think it need detail for each day, which it would be very very difficult to people to read the same information from 30 days. Only notable info should be included. Matthew hk (talk) 05:14, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thank you so much! 65.60.163.223 (talk) 23:02, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Initium source check

[edit]

This looks like somebody's photo blog. I'm not going to unilaterally pull it like the CIA operated RFA material, but blogs are not considered WP:RS. Before I take it to WP:RS/N I thought I'd check here to see if this outlet has any reputation outside of the protests. Simonm223 (talk) 12:43, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just FYI: I was unaware about the reputation and background of Radio Free Asia. Does Wikipedia have a running list of credible news agencies, as well as a list of the less reliable ones, like this? Thanks. 65.60.163.223 (talk) 04:11, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I found the answer to my own question: WP:Reliable sources/Perennial sources and WP:Potentially unreliable sources although the latter page does not have a comprehensive list, nor does it mention Radio Free Asia. 65.60.163.223 (talk) 22:44, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It is run by a company, but you can say since it only made online edition instead of publishing print edition, their business scale could be small. Matthew hk (talk) 12:54, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Do they have any verifiable reputation for fact checking and correction? Simonm223 (talk) 12:56, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If using this line, i am certain Apple Daily had fail quite clearly, even it is ran by a listed company Next Digital. HK01 is online only news website as well as Stand News. Matthew hk (talk) 13:07, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Online only isn't the differentiating line, but I do have my doubts about Apple Daily. The fact that there are quite a few people who mis-understand WP:RS to be about whether an outlet has a bias is a complicating factor of course. Simonm223 (talk) 13:12, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The last opinion poll conduced by CUHK, had covered HK01, Stand News and Apple Daily and Initium , etc. (see this news article and primary source) Not sure how to draw a line for pass and fail as well as the wiki policy on opinion poll. And here is some opinion by peer i dig out. Matthew hk (talk) 13:30, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, those two sources paint rather disparate pictures of Initium. I'm tempted to leave it in for now as probably reliable for routine details but would probably treat content sole-sourced to it as being dubious WRT WP:DUE. Does that seem reasonable? Simonm223 (talk) 13:42, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If the event is notable, then it should have more than one media to report. The problem of this sub-articles, would be rather it need to trim heavily, for example, for school strike, it would be nightmare to list out the details of protests in every "notable" schools. Instead it should wrote a brief summary and expecting people to read citation for more detail. If English source and print newspaper (but not Apple) are available as better source, or it does not really help to act as a citation for the summary (or due to OVERCITE) for sure Initium can be removed. Matthew hk (talk) 03:42, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing on September 5th?

Man, people have to work. Yes, Mong Kok station have incident again and some students held another demonstration in near their schools , but it need someone to write a summary instead of listing details. Matthew hk (talk) 14:22, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Concur, there's been a perception that these pages need to catalog anytime more than two people appear in public wearing a black tee-shirt. This really isn't the case. Please consider the reader - what is relevant to them? Simonm223 (talk) 14:21, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I tired to don't write in timeline style, but in grouping in paragraphs: school demo, physician and nurse demo, MTR, police station, and split out the marches. Except physician and nurse demo need to some rewrite as more than one demo since 2 September, the current state is somewhat fine, may be some detail need to be trimmed. Wikipedia is not a news report service. We really need a brief summary for all the events. Matthew hk (talk) 14:44, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing on 17th, 18th or 19th? Are the 6 month protests coming to an end?

[edit]

129.97.124.62 (talk) 03:38, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate list of stuff. Perhaps nothing in the last three days has been reported on in WP:RS yet. Simonm223 (talk) 14:49, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because there are protests notable enough and with enough realiable sources and media coverage. --Mariogoods (talk) 01:17, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lead section

[edit]

I have just rewritten the lead section and removed the corresponding tag. --CRau080 (talk) 19:40, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
