Merge proposal

[edit]

Either this page should exist, or in the "Eilenberg Steenrod axioms" page (as well as others possibly) one must define what a pair (X,A) is. It's not just a pair of spaces in the sense of two objects in the category of spaces. Instead, it is shorthand for a chosen inclusion of A into X. PAIR is a term with specific mathematical meaning.

Actually, I just realized that pair of spaces is already a wikipedia entry, and would be suitable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikidsp (talkcontribs) 21:17, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know which title is better, so I added a merge tag. In any case, there's a bit more content in this version. --C S (talk) 04:32, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I found a reference for the definition of a topological pair. I think this is the correct term and that the page on "pair of spaces" should be merged into this one. The refence it gives is to Hatcher, but he only uses the phrase "pair of spaces" informally. He does not say anywhere that this is the definition of a pair of spaces. Hatcher does talk about CW pairs, and this might be worth added note. I do not know how to merge pages, so I'll leave that for others. ---MCS, Feb 20, 2014. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.230.109.78 (talk) 18:38, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Support merge; same topic; as with the other, I suggest that merging Pair of spaces to here is better. Klbrain (talk) 05:02, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
