History notes

[edit]

Obviously the detailed history should go in the state articles. Here are some general notes. --NE2 16:27, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

US 21 runs up to Cleveland, Ohio

[edit]

Not sure what's entailed with editing a page, but this article incorrectly states that US 21 runs from VA through SC. Don't know what sort of proof or evidence one needs to provide to edit a page, except to say that I've been driving this road all my life, and can personally attest that US 21 runs parallel to I-77 from Cleveland, Ohio down through WVA and into the Carolinas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.197.236.23 (talk) 17:38, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I believe you are mistaking Ohio State Route 21 with U.S. Route 21. The wiki article is correct with its current northern terminus in Virginia. Proof is easy, simply provide a reference that shows otherwise. --WashuOtaku (talk) 23:16, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Strictly speaking, I-77 closely parallels old US 21 in Ohio, except to diverge into Akron and Canton., where it largely supplants old Ohio 8.Pbrower2a (talk) 18:47, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wytheville area edit of 03/18/2021

[edit]

I removed I 77 / I 81 / US 52 shields and "to" text from US 11 north / 33.8 milemarker entry for clarity. I felt this information (especially shields) to be extraneous and slightly confusing. Actual intersection is not signed in this fashion. Also now matches US 11 south / 33.5 milemarker entry, as it too could be said to be going "to" I 77 / I 81 / US 52.--Gapmtn1 (talk) 14:42, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Extra history content

[edit]

There are two problems with the content I just removed from the article.

  1. Google Maps shows the current routing of roads and highways. It does not show the historical routings. Assuming that the content was correct, that those roads once carried US 21, Google Maps just cannot source that information unless every road has a name like "Old US 21" or something. You'd need different sources for that, otherwise it's basically the assertion of someone saying that the route plotted on Google Maps is the former routing of US 21, and that's the definition of original research in action.
  2. It's a lot of detailed content for a history section. It's not completely out of place, but it doesn't belong here in that format. Rather, we should include the history of the sections that lost the designation and, this is the big part, when they lost that designation.

Because of these two issues, I trimmed back the content and request proper citations again. Imzadi 1979  23:05, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
