[edit]Just for the record, the great broadcaster Lindsey Nelson never announced a football game for the Memphis Showboats of the USFL, despite pre-season media guides to the contrary. I believe that by 1984 Nelson was in declining health and at the 11th hour, he was replaced as the play-by-play voice of the Showboats by Rick Weaver, who at one time was the announcer for the NFL Miami Dolphins. Weaver did play-by-play for most of the Memphis USFL games their first season, but he did miss a couple of games due to prior scheduling conflicts. His replacement on at least two occasions was the venerable voice of the collegiate Tennessee Volunteers, John Ward. Loafbread (talk) 19:48, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
