Approved list of sources?

[edit]

Following the recent removal of content by Itsmejudith because "We don't have Controversy sections, and don't use either the Daily Mail or the Socialist Party as references." I have been trying to find a list of approved sources to use on Wikipedia. Can anyone point me in the right direction? If the use of external material is now subject to censorship then I for one would appreciate the provision by the Wikipedia elite of an approved list of sources. Thanks. Hi. We don't have an approved list of sources, but you can get lots of help and advice on sourcing from the reliable sources noticeboard. There was a debate about use of the Daily Mail which was covered in the external press. Actually, we might use it occasionally, but I think you will agree that it is hardly suitable for an article about a university. The Socialist Party is a bit different, and has rarely been discussed, but if a point it makes is notable, it would be covered in the local or national press. Article structure guidelines are at WP:WikiProject Universities which you would be very welcome to join if you are interested in such articles. As a project member I have been working through articles on UK institutions, bringing them into conformity. But note that the guidelines themselves are a matter of consensus between editors. University ratings

[edit]

(I'm posting this to all articles on UK universities as so far discussion hasn't really taken off on Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities.)

There needs to be a broader convention about which university rankings to include in articles. Currently it seems most pages are listing primarily those that show the institution at its best (or worst in a few cases). See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Universities#University ratings. I have, I hope, rectified the situation in this article.--Lapin rossignol (talk) 18:48, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Bradshawgate fire

[edit]

How do we tackle this one? I noted the fire at the Cube early on the morning of 16th November Philip Cross corrected me. I made a point of stating that the Cube was privately owned and parked the note on this page for a lack of anything more obvious- I think that a one liner is justified.Proxima Centauri has written a whole sub-section. But is the wrong place.

The issues are incredibly significant and need even wider discussion but the only connection I can see with U of B, is that the victims and two casualities were students here. Should this be an Article or parked elsewhere, what would its title be- Can we justify Wikinotablity WP:GNG. Can it be worked up as a DYK before the UK election? I need a anchor so I can link it to other fire and political articles. Suggestions. --ClemRutter (talk) 14:22, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
