I am uncomfortable with the listing of cultivars on this page. None of these are pure Vitis labrusca, and while they are similar in many characteristics to labrusca, they are more properly termed Vitis x labruscana. I would prefer to see this article renamed that, and a separate article set up solely for the wild species Vitis labrusca (there have been purely labrusca cultivars, but very few of these are currently extant, and none are commercially important). I'm also a little confused why the reference to Canadian Moonseed is here. Elakazal 02:54, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
- I agree; would it not be more appropriate to rename this article along the lines of "American hybrid grape varieties" given that these were hybridized in America (often by accident) in an attempt to establish better quality vines by crossing them with imported vines from Europe? Also, how can you define an "important" cultivar? Can't Isabella and Noah easily be considered as important due to their historical significance and the fact that they are widely cultivated in Europe for use in making Uhudler and Fragolino? In my opinion the Canadian Moonseed is somewhat irrelevant to the topic as it is not related to Vitis Labrusca, perhaps a link could be placed under "See also" if it is deemed important to warn of the dangers and a brief description in the body of the text. - I set the bar pretty low when it comes to important. I would certainly consider Isabella and Noah important, but I would guarantee that neither is pure labrusca, contrary to some folks' beliefs. Elakazal
- There is already an article referring to Hybrid grapes and its scope is much broader than the labrusca-based cultivars mentioned on this page.Ryandaum 23:16, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed--hybrid grapes is a much broader category than Vitis x labruscana. I would think it might still be worth a separate page. Elakazal
