Some proposed changes | History Part

[edit]

Hi ! Thank you in advance for your feedback on the proposed changes in the History Part.

* Specific texts to be added :

Following the 1st paragraph, a detail on the method used which allowed Voodoo to release its 1st hit:

By using the game development platform Unity, Voodoo started to test one game per week instead of one per year. With this method, the company released its first hit in 2016, Paper.io1.

After the last paragraph:

In July 2021, Voodoo brought the GBL holding company into its capital in order to invest massively in its technological infrastructure1. The company is then valued at 1.7 billion euros[1].

Voodoo relies on the display of advertising to generate profits. From around 1 million euros in 2016, the group's revenues rose to 380 million in 20201. With more than 5 billion downloads[2] and nearly 300 million users each month for 200 games available internationally1}, Voodoo ranks #6 in the Top 10 of the largest publishers in China[3] and No. 1 in the United States[4], where the company achieves more than 50% of its income1.

Voodoo has teamed up with more than 2,000 outside studios, responsible for 75% of the games created1. The publisher provides them with an online platform[5], creating acquisition campaigns in the United States and thus detecting the potential of each game1. Voodoo finances the most promising studios and supports them during the prototyping phase. In exchange for this help, Voodoo receives a share of the profits generated by each game1.

Voodoo is now committed to the “casual gaming” sector by publishing two games “Plantopia” and “Bubble Buster 2048”1. The company continues to diversify by designing “non-gaming” applications, as with the creation of « Wizz» application, released 1 ½ years ago in the United States1. This social network for teens already has 1 million monthly active users1 and is one of the « fastest-growing Mobile Apps » in the US[6].

* Reason for the change:

Since the last edit, Voodoo has evolved with new figures and new information

No comment on the request itself at this time but thank you for following the proper procedure! -- ferret (talk) 16:03, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I will look into this later today, including a source review. It is known that Statista is not a reliable source, for example. IceWelder [] 06:08, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your feedback. @IceWelder: Other sources can be used to notify the place of Voodoo in China (which then involve a slight modification of the text).
In Sensor Tower report “Q1 2021 Store Intelligent Data Digest” (can be downloaded here), page 41, Voodoo is ranked # 7 Top Publisher in Asia
The game Destiny Run is ranked #6 in Google Play downloads in China "Overall Category" (as of 09/27/21) on 42matters.com
Regarding the Voodoo platform for Studios, if the link to the publisher's website is not okay, here is an article about it that could be used as a source
Thanks again !

Added the non-duplicate statements. As I said previously, Statista (like many of these statistics website) is known to be unreliable. Mobidictum does not look reliable either. I'm not sure what kind of information the Andreessen Horowitz source is trying to represent; it shows the Wizz Air logo and never mentions the app in prose. IceWelder [] 17:55, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for your intervention and for updating some informations. Just a quick note: in your text, the company is valued at 1.7million but the exact figure is 1.7billion. If more reliable sources could be suggested later, then I would open a new discussion. Eme.Line.SEO (talk) 14:13, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's a typo on my side. I have corrected it. IceWelder [] 15:00, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some proposed changes Games section

[edit]

Hi ! Thank you in advance for your feedback on the proposed changes in the Games Part.

* Specific texts to be added :

The majority of Voodoo's games are free-to-play "hyper-casual games" developed for the Android and iOS mobile operating systems. Voodoo games were downloaded 2 billion times by April 2019.[20] In December 2019, Voodoo games had 2.6 billion downloads, 300 million monthly active users, and 1 billion individual players.[10] They reached 3.7 billion downloads by May 2020[21] and 5 billion in May 2021[7]. Helix Jump is Voodoo's most successful game with more than 500 million downloads as of August 2020.[19]

30 most downloaded Voodoo games[8]:

  • Helix Jump
  • Hole.io
  • Snake vs Block
  • Paper.io 2
  • Crowd City
  • Fireballs 3D
  • Aquapark.io
  • Paper.io
  • Dune
  • Rolly Vortex
  • Stack Jump
  • Ball Blast
  • Baseball Boy
  • Tenkyu
  • Twisty Road!
  • Fight List
  • Flappy Dunk
  • Splashy
  • Bumper.io
  • Grass Cut
  • Knock Balls!
  • Twenty48 Solitaire
  • Color Road
  • Spiral Roll
  • Roof Rails
  • Pokey Ball
  • City Takeover
  • Lumbercraft 3D
  • Castle Raid!
  • Run Rich 3D

* Reason for the change:

Voodoo has published more than 200 games internationally[9] and yet only 8 are cited, in a prose format. I propose a new presentation, concerning the 30 most downloaded games.

Eme.Line.SEO (talk) 16:05, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The five billion figure can be cited with this secondary source and I will do that later today. Is there a better source for the list of games than Voodoo's own website? IceWelder [] 06:06, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@IceWelder: Thanks for the new source. The complete list of Voodoo games is on Sensor Tower website (include all Voodoo Apps, with the possibility of sorting by downloads or revenue). This source may be more neutral and yet reliable. --Eme.Line.SEO (talk) 21:32, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sensor Tower is not exactly a reliable website for this. Given that the top-20 games can change frequently and rapdily, I'd avoid adding these for now. If a better source can be found with a definite list as of a definite date, I wouldn't mind still adding them. For now, I have included the 5-billion figure. IceWelder [] 17:55, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, thank you for your help. If more reliable sources can be proposed later, I will open a new discussion (same for "Accolades" or any further updates). Eme.Line.SEO (talk) 14:15, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some proposed changes Accolades section

[edit]

Hi ! Thank you in advance for your feedback on the proposed changes in the Accolades Part.

* Specific texts to be added :

  • #1 App Annie Top Global Publishers 2021[10]
  • #1 App Annie Top France headquartered Publishers 2021 [11]
  • #16 on Pocket Gamer.biz's "Top 50 Mobile Game Makers 2020 [12]
  • #5 on Pocket Gamer.biz's "Top 50 Mobile Game Makers of 2019 [13]
  • #20 on Pocket Gamer.biz's "Top 50 Mobile Game Developers of 2018 [14]

  • Best Publisher Finalist - Mobile Game Awards 2018 [16]
  • BFM Business Revelation of the Year Award 2019 [17]
  • Top 40 ranking – Next40 French Tech 120 [18]

* Reason for the change:

Voodoo has obtained other accolades. To provide an exhaustive list, a presentation in a bullet point form seems more appropriate.

References

These are well cited, but I wouldn't change to a list, per WP:NOTALIST. Let me see how I can fold some in, unless other editors disagree. --FeldBum (talk) 21:04, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We avoid adding accolades/awards from unnotable outlets. Pocket Gamer (and, by extension, Pocket Gamer.biz) is notable enough for a mention and are already included. I do not think that "App Annie" and "Mobile Games Awards" are particularly notable, but we could look into including BFM TV and Next40 [fr]. A better source than "Maddyness" should be found for the latter, though. IceWelder [] 06:00, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your answers ! I was thinking of a presentation in list format because it seems complicated to state the distinctions in prose format. I can however try the exercise and propose a text later if necessary.
@IceWelder: Regarding “Mobile Games Awards”, this is an award created by the Steel Media team, which publishes Pocket Gamer (and pg.biz). Can we then consider these 2 Awards as notable? Regarding AppAnnie, it is considered as "the industry's most trusted mobile data and analytics platform" by businessofapps.com. I do not know if this website is notable enough to accept the distinctions. Regarding Next40, there are indeed better sources. The official website can be used as a source, either this article from the newspaper Le Figaro or this one from the newspaper Les Echos.
Thank you for the feedback. --Eme.Line.SEO (talk) 22:31, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The description on businessofapps.com is likely provided by App Annie itself. It is mostly an analytics firm, I am not aware of other critical conduct, so I'm excluding it for now. I added the others. IceWelder [] 17:55, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some more proposed changes | History Part

[edit]

Hi! Thank you for helping and collaborating on this. Truly appreciate it. I wanted to check if you can also add about acquisition/collaboration with H8 games in Ukraine. Some sources for that are [19], [20], [21].

The second change that I wanted to request your help was on to add a bit more about collaboration with Ohm games: that they had published 4 games together and Ohm contributed to around 260 Million downloads. Some links for that are [22], [23], [24].

Thank you in advance for all your help and support. Forgot to ping you, IceWelder. NiallOconner (talk) 15:07, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I was able to add the details on OHM Games' previous releases and H8games as the developer of Helix Jump. However, I could not verify the reliability of Game World Observer and AIN.UA, so I could not yet add the acquisition of H8games. I requested a review of Game World Observer at WT:VG/RS and will add if it is found to be reliable. Regards, IceWelder [] 10:52, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
