[edit]- In 1989, those buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2005, they were demolished and replaced by a supermarket.
Huh? They can just do that? So being declared "historical" doesn't offer some protection from obliteration? I'm disillusioned. Whenever I've read that, I've thought, "Great—now some greedy, short-sighted developer won't raze the place, and people generations from now will be able to appreciate it."
