Etymology[edit]

The first bullet point refers to the use of wazoo as a slang term for the anus, but it mentions an obscure origin for the word which has no citation and is not explained in the linked article. It has already been removed [1] once, with the following comment: Removed origin comment, uncited and not supported; OED lists origin as unknown. That edit was subsequently un-done [2] by an anonymous editor. I have added the [citation needed] tag in the hopes of starting some discussion on the matter. – e.James (talk)05:58, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This has actually been removed and re-added several times. There is no evidence I can find for this being true—in fact every dictionary I checked explicitly lists the origin as unknown but American with the first known usage in the United States in 1961. I believe this being repeatedly added here, generally by anonymous users, to be just vandalism and as such it can be removed—mostly—with impunity. Keep in mind that 3RR refers to reversions done by the same author within a 24 hour period. Disambiguation pages are not meant to have citations; the relevant information here should be in the Wiktionary entry. For clarification here is the citation from OED: ("wazoo, n.". OED Online. November 2010. Oxford University Press. http://www.oed.com/viewdictionaryentry/Entry/251512) – JaseXavier (talk) 07:12, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
An additional note: Wazoo is a disambiguation page, not an article; its purpose is navigational rather than informational. Even if a correct etymology had been added, it would still not belong in the page (lovers of shortcuts may refer to WP:DABNOT for guidelines on what else ought not to be included). --88.104.39.55 (talk) 17:18, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
