Redirect

[edit]

Why does "Werribee South" redirect to this article when there is an article on that location, ill change it and if anyone disagrees they can change it back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingpomba (talkcontribs) 14:36, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Werribee Park estate is in Werribee South not Werribee. Mustard Pot (talk) 05:10, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sexual assault

[edit]

This article should mention the shocking sexual assault that occurred in this area because it has become a notorious case [1]-Schnurrbart (talk) 04:07, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. So therefore, we should include all other major events or crimes that have occurred in the area also? There have been murders over time, as well as shocking assaults, wild house parties that have gotten out of hand, etc. etc... Including all these criminal events is largely irrelevant to the page, and un-encyclopedic IMHO. Other suburbs and towns do not include criminal events of their past on their pages. Neither should the "Werribee" page. Heymiki87 (talk) 11:19, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Beginnings Section

[edit]

Edited for cohesion in response to request for copy-editing. Removed narrative sentence ("they both stood overlooking...") to support encyclopedic tone, NPOV. Noted that the island was discovered "by British explorers," but I do not expect this to be controversial. Minor changes to remainder of article. Closed copy editing request. - LightHand (talk) 17:40, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I today reverted back to my last edit on 30 August 2010 as edits by Matt7850, who has previously amended the notable residents to include Chuck Norris and Matthew Mullins (who I assume is Matt7850), have created a story which does not accurately describe the beginnings of Werribee and include a person who coincidently also shares his name in the events. This was then edited due to the large number of spelling and gramatical errors made by Matt7850 and then later reworded and written in a more encyclopedic format. Unfortunately all these later changes do not make the story any more true.

Searching for "Matthew J. Mullins" on a web search engine will now bring up a number of sites which have taken word for word parts of Wikipedia to describe the beginnings of Werribee, however I can assure you that not reliable resource will exist to confirm this story and this has now given me little faith in Wikipedia and it's abilty to remain accurate.

To clarify this for you all, there was no British explorer named Matthew J. Mullin and there was no 'Pride of her Majesty'. The made up story states that Matthew J Mullins never lived to see the town of Werribee, this may be because as was later stated it was originally a rural township named Wyndham which began in the early 1850s and Matthew Flinders who was described as having sailed with the imaginary "Matthew J. Mullins" died in 1814.

Matthew Flinders did not name Werribee and it was not named Werribee until 1904, which shows conflicting timeline in this previous version of this article. - Cj au 3 March 2011 —Preceding undated comment added 23:49, 2 March 2011 (UTC).[reply]
