Duplication of content from Punjabi language[edit]

A lot of content in this article is duplication of what's present in the article Punjabi language. I think this should be avoided by placing common content in a separate article or linking to relevant sections. utcursch | talk 06:19, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing different linguistic varieties[edit]

This article needs to decide whether it's about standard Punjabi as spoken in Pakistan (80 million or so speakers), or about the Saraiki/Western Punjabi language (20 million or so speakers). When Ethnologue classifies Western Punjabi as a "Lahnda" language with 80 million speakers, it's simply wrong. It's confusing the political border in Punjab (that crosses through the area where Eastern Punjabi/Standard Punjabi/Majhi or whatever you want to call it is spoken) with the linguistic border (which divides Punjabi from the Saraiki/Western Punjabi language of the south, the Potwari language of Rawalpindi and Azad Kashmir and the Hindko one of Attock and Pakhtunkhwa, all classified as "Lahnda" by Grierson, unlike the dominant Punjabi variety). saɪm duʃan Talk|Contribs 15:41, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
