Joseph Shaw

[edit]

In April, 1865, Joseph Shaw, newspaper editor, had his presses wrecked and his business destroyed, and was subsequently beaten and stabbed to death by four men in Westminster, allegedly because of an anti-Lincoln editorial that was published the week before the actual assassination. In a later trial at the Westminster Court House the four men were let off. The reason for the acquittal was "self-defense."

The wikiLink to Joseph Shaw leads to a person by that name who "was the editor of Black Mask magazine from 1926 to 1936". While it is not completely impossible that this is the same person who had his business destroyed in 1865, it seems a little unlikely. According to http://hscc.carr.org/research/yesteryears/cct2006/060924.htm, the 1865 Shaw was stabbed to death soon after (or during? unclear) the incident. The link leads to a disambiguation page now, with one of the entries being the Westminster Shaw. Mangollama09 (talk) 04:45, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
