Windows 2000?

[edit]

What purpose does mentioning he switched from Linux to Windows a couple of decades ago serve? Or that his iMac died? Maybe we should find out if he has an iPhone or an Android, too? Silly junk like this (and his hockey fandom) do not belong in an encyclopedia. The most effectual Bob Cat (talk) 22:06, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Years active?

[edit]

Why does the infobox say "Years Active: 1980-present"? Seems out of place on a bio.

I don't want to delete it, in case it's some New Thing wikipedia is doing, but if someone knows it's a mistake, it should go.

If it's not a mistake... well, that seems like a really opaque thing to put in a bio... active in what? Felice Enellen (talk) 06:21, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Academic Competitions"

[edit]

Recently, new user Orlandoproud (talk · contribs) added mention of Wheaton hosting two Mathcounts events (a middle-school mathematics competition) in the "Other ventures" section. I removed this, noting that "i'm sure he hosts all kinds of things, and this isn't a major "venture" for him". To expand on my edit summary, the other ventures listed here are things that Wheaton has written, organized, produced, advocated for, etc. This section isn't (and shouldn't) be merely a collection of any appearances or random events he's been paid to host, and I'm not aware of any coverage of these events that make his hosting them particularly notable. Orlandoproud reverted me, so I wanted to get other's opinions on whether this content should be retained. --ZimZalaBim talk 19:18, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it's trivial information that has received no independent coverage to make it worth mentioning. I'm sure it was exciting and enjoyable for the students competing, just not significant enough to be mentioned is an encyclopedia biography. Schazjmd (talk) 19:27, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ready Room Lead Worthy?

[edit]

Yesterday I edited the lead paragraph to include the fact that Wil Wheaton is the current host of the Star Trek aftershow The Ready Room. It was reverted with the question "Is this lead-worthy?" It's obvious I think it is. That's why I added it in. I would think being host of a television show would be even more lead-worthy than his recurring roles in other shows, yet those are considered lead-worthy. So I would like some input. What do other Wikipedia users think? Marshall Stax (talk) 20:24, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with 2601:249:8b80:4050:add4:94bd:e276:4e16 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). The purpose of the lead is to summarize the entire article. The Ready Room is just one of many entries in the filmography tables, no reason to highlight it in the lead. Schazjmd (talk) 20:40, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

A whole lot of the sources used in this article are either primary sources or fringe sources. Probably a lot of the material cited to those sources shouldn't be here. Amandil21 (talk) 04:30, 15 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

More Involvement in Audiobooks

[edit]

I don't know how to edit this, but I think Wheaton's involvement in the reading of 'The Martian's' audiobook should be on tha page. SpaceViking4519 (talk) 09:16, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good, do we have a source for that? 207.229.139.154 (talk) 11:51, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wil

[edit]

Am I overlooking something, or does the article not explain why he's called "Wil", and who first called him that. --77.162.8.57 (talk) 18:08, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That would be his parents. It's not what he's called, it's his name. ~~ Seanbonner (talk) 03:40, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

voting history

[edit]

I removed the list of politicians he'd voted for as insignificant. If any independent sources have given any attention to who Wheaton voted for, that'd be one thing, but just going through the history of his website to find where he mentioned his votes is WP:UNDUE. Post-Star Trek section contains incorrect information.

[edit]

"Wheaton played Joey Trotta in the action film Toy Soldiers (1991). After leaving Star Trek, he moved to Topeka, Kansas, to work for NewTek, where he helped to develop the Video Toaster 4000 doing product testing and quality control and later used his public profile to serve as a technology evangelist for the product. Afterward, he returned to Los Angeles, attended acting school for five years, and then re-entered the acting world. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Wheaton appeared in several independent films, including the award-winning The Good Things (2001), in which he portrays a frustrated Kansas tollbooth worker "

This section makes it seem like he quit acting after Toy Soldiers and then came back during the late 90s. That is not accurate. According to his filmography on here and on IMDB he has a ton of credits from 1991 to 1999 (the period of time in which he claims he was no longer acting). Career versus Other Ventures

[edit]

It seems like his work as an New York Times Best Selling author and as a narrator should be included as part of his career. I would appreciate any feedback and help in giving his work in these categories due weight by including it as part of his career. EditorInInferior (talk) 15:58, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like it could be Acting career (with Hosting moved down into the next section), and the other section could be Non-acting professional ventures (with Politics moved into Personal life). (added) I think this should be left open for discussion for a week or so before making any changes, to see what other interested editors think. Schazjmd (talk) 16:06, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback. I went ahead and made the changes as suggested. EditorInInferior (talk) 20:44, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Big Bang

[edit]

Why is his work on The Big Bang Theory not mentioned at all??? 174.203.71.90 (talk) 04:55, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It was in the intro, I added a small mention to the body. Commander Keane (talk) 09:38, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
