London, Chatham and Dover Railway

I am reverting this edit by Pechristener (talk · contribs). Of the two refs provided, the Science Museum page contains several demonstrable errors, and so the page as a whole should be taken as unreliable source. The Britannica extract at Wikisource doesn't mention Cubitt being Locomotive Superintendent at all, but does state that His son, Joseph Cubitt (1811–1872), was trained under him, and was engineer of various railways, including the ... London, Chatham & Dover. Joseph is not William, besides which, the engineer to a railway was priamrily concerned with civil engineering such as track, bridges, tunnels and other fixed infrastructore - not locomotives.

do not mention William Cubitt in connection with locomotives at all, but in the chapters dealing with locomotives there are occasional passing mentions of Joseph Cubitt.

Bradley is the most comprehensive when it comes to locomotives. He is clear that prior to Martley's appointment, the earlier locos were ordered to designs produced by T.R. Crampton, after Joseph Cubitt (in his capacity as [civil] engineer) was unable to provide satisfactory specifications.
