While I do not dispute that Yang served as Xu’s No. 2 in the initial part of the 1979 invasion of Vietnam, I seriously doubt we know enough about the inner workings of the CCP MAC to actually specify that Yang was “nominated,” for the role, and personally have not seen any evidence that Xu made any request along those lines.
