U.S touring

[edit]

They did not play "with Soundgarden on the Lollapalooza festival." They toured the U.S. as opening act for Soundgarden in summer 1994; The Reverend Horton Heat were also on the bill for at least part of the way. (Soundgarden played Lolla only in '92 and '96.)

I think the person may have just omitted a comma, because if YAI did indeed play on Lolla at some point, then the following sentence would be correct: "with Soundgarden, on the Lollapalooza festival, [with] Redd Kross, [etc.]" Chris77xyz 16:21, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Ponce and thuggery"; Triple J; U.S. touring cnt'd.

[edit]

This phrase is used twice in the article. I presume this is Aussie/Brit slang, meaning about 5.5 to 6 billion people on earth have no idea what it means.

I also think someone ought to mention the band's frequent/semi-infamous appearances on Triple J radio.

I took out a line about the band's "extensive" touring in the U.S., because it is simply inaccurate. Being a huge fan of the band starting in 1995, via a promo cassingle featuring the immortal "Berlin Chair," I never once got a chance to see them live. After the '94 tour w/ Soundgarden/ Rev. Horton Heat (which I will always kick myself for missing) and a leg of Lollapalooza '96, they just played a handful of shows in major Northeast/ West coast U.S. cities every once in a while. Davey Lane

[edit]

Whoever wrote that section about Davey Lane has got it completely wrong. He joined in '99, and the Pictures started in 2002. So what's been written makes no sense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.210.30.118 (talk) 11:49, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Sound Relief concert

[edit]

Re: User:Nick-D (talk) & recent deletion of paragraph about You Am I due to perform at Sound Relief concert which was referenced. 'Edit summary' states (Undid revision 273155018 by Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) not needed; YAI have performed thousands of concerts). Whilst it is probably true that YAI have performed thousands of concerts, I doubt that any have included a benefit performance in support of 210+ dead Australians? IMO, the historical significance of the benefit concert is notable. Would Nick-D like to discuss further the reasons for this deletion?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:56, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You Am I have played benefit concerts before, including Wave Aid, which was to raise money for the relief effort after hundreds of thousands of people were killed in the Indian Ocean tidal wave disaster. They're also played just about every regular Australian rock festival at one time or another so they've performed in front of huge crowds before. As such, there's nothing particularly special about the Sound Relief concert from the perspective of YAI, which is what this article is about. The band have a very complete gig list on their official websites ([1] and [2]) and there's no need for Wikipedia to repeat this material. This concert might deserve a sentence at most as part of the history section (along with Wave Aid, etc), but it doesn't need a whole para, most of which isn't about the band. I note that you've been dropping identical paras into the articles on the other bands which will be performing. Nick-D (talk) 10:45, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your prompt response: I can go with the single sentence, I assume you should write the sentence as my para is considered over-long. Perhaps I place far more importance on this event than you do, which is why I've added those paras to other articles as well. As for Wave Aid et al I think they should be given similar prominent paras in the YAI article but again your opinion differs.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:27, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With no further feedback, I've decided I will add a sentence on YAI at Wave Aid and a separate sentence on their expected appearance at Sound Relief. Again, these are historically significant events and hence notable. Both sentences will be duly referenced.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 20:30, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clarity

[edit]

I have commenced the process of dividing the History section in order to enhance the clarity of the article; I will return to complete the process in due course.--Soulparadox (talk) 04:56, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lead section

As I believe the Lead section is now sufficient, I have removed the corresponding tag; if anyone begs to differ, then please contribute to the article.--Soulparadox (talk) 08:35, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
