... that to calculate how much orchard blossom has been lost from the British landscape, the National Trust used artificial intelligence to interrogate historic maps?Source: "The trust used a firm specialising in artificial intelligence to compare orchards in England and Wales marked on Ordnance Survey maps from the turn of the 20th century with modern OS maps, data from People’s Trust for Endangered Species and Natural England." https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/mar/24/blossom-falls-80-of-small-orchards-in-england-and-wales-lost-since-1900- ALT1:
... that as part of the #BlossomWatch campaign, the National Trust planted trees along a circular bus route in Birmingham?Source: "In the autumn, the conservation charity will start a blossom legacy planting programme when the trees from the installations, along with more than 500 ornamental blossom and fruit trees, will be planted in and with local communities to recreate a symbolic ‘ring of blossom’ around the city, following Birmingham’s 27-mile, iconic number 11 bus route." https://www.birminghamworld.uk/news/the-national-trust-pop-up-blossom-gardens-celebrating-birminghams-botanical-history-3624382 - Reviewed: Template:Did you know nominations/Patsy Pulitzer
- Comment: Conflict of Interest: I started the BlossomWatch page as part of a paid pilot for the National Trust. I looked at WP:DYKSG, but did not see that I would be precluded from nominating it as a DYK. A DYK nomination for Knowles Mill has been kindly reviewed and accepted. There's more detail on the pilot and the work I've been undertaking here: User:Lajmmoore/National Trust
- ALT1:
Created by Lajmmoore (talk). Self-nominated at 09:21, 1 August 2022 (UTC).
- @Lajmmoore: New enough, long, enough, well referenced, and neutral. QPQ is done. I have slight concerns about both hooks: ALT0 is an WP:EASTEREGG link and although it's interesting doesn't seem to directly relate to #BlossomWatch. I much prefer ALT1, but the two references provided are both from March and are in future tense. Are there any sources available that say these trees were actually planted? Or is the planting planned to occur in the northern hemisphere autumn later this year, as per the quote above? 97198 (talk) 10:42, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hello 97198 thanks very much for the review - I'd not come across the EasterEgg guidance before, so I'll bear that in mind in the future. Thanks also for the attention you paid to the timing - I've added new sources that confirm that the Newcastle garden has been planted, and the Birmingham ones did "pop-up", but the bus route is meant to come this Autumn. Would a tweaked version of ALT1 work?
