Roman Theatre at Palmyra
A panoramic view of the Roman Theatre in Palmyra, in the Syrian Desert, from the cavea. Dating to the 2nd century CE and constructed by the Severan dynasty, the theatre was left unfinished. It was cleaned and restored beginning in the 1950s, and now serves as a venue for the annual Palmyra festival.Photograph: Guillaume Piolle
