Chinois[edit]

I have removed the link about Réunion, because there is not, currently, a significant Chinese migration to the island. Chinois have been living there since the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. Thierry Caro (talk) 14:21, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The articles in this template in actual practise are not just about present migrant communities, but their descendants as well. We should avoid being excessively focused on the present --- at some point in history, someone had to migrate from China in order that there'd be Chinese on Réunion today, so this article too forms a part of the history of immigration. As a thought experiment: if all migration to France stopped tomorrow, should we then empty the template entirely? cab (talk) 14:29, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In this case, you can put it back, but please use the link to Chinois (Réunion), which is the local name. Sino-Réunionnais is seldom used there. Thierry Caro (talk) 14:37, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, just saw the move. Thanks for renaming it to the proper name. A lot of these articles about migrant groups are poorly titled and I've been moving them to proper titles where I find strong evidence to support a renaming, but without local knowledge it's not always possible to do this research just online. As for whether or not to reinsert the link, I'll wait for comments from other editors. Cheers, cab (talk) 15:30, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
