Paques est une fête célébrée internationalement, et elle a perdu son côté religieux: de nos jours, il s'agit plusd'une tradition que d'une fête a but de foi.

Not a matter for this template, you can suggest edits on the talk page of the French Wikipedia. – Thjarkur (talk) 18:41, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I ever looked at this template which I think is hard to read, sorry. Where is Passion (music)? Why a few individual hymns for Easter but not List of Easter hymns? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:02, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It has been expanded to three levels since you wrote this, but I still don't see Passion (music) in there. List of Easter hymns has now been linked from one of the intermediate headings. When I clean up the template soon, I will see if I can use Template:Christmas as model at least for the music section. ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 06:12, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This navbox used to be much more useful...

... and understandable. Here is a not-too-long-ago version before wording and concepts were moved and complicated. Maybe someone can bring some of that back to the template, or better yet just revert to this form and add some of the minor edits or additions made since, thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:56, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Still the same concern, many of the words are not understandable or familiar to most readers, and the simplicity of the navbox is lost (see above link for how the navbox used to look and was an easy read). Randy Kryn (talk) 10:35, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I just removed one subset of these complications before I noticed this discussion, and will consult the diffs to the version you brought up to do a more thorough job soon; hopefully today. ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 05:59, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So I was going to tackle this now, but it's more complicated than I thought. The new structure may arguably have an advantage in that it shows a timeline. But then again, why should we even need to include all manner of details about Lent and even Pre-Lent up to Pentecost in each article related to Easter? I'm tending towards deleting all non-Easter links, including most of those outside of the Easter first-order group, but also some that are currently in it, such as the Feast of the Ascension, which I would regard as a different holyday. (In Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Christianity it is so by definition, while one might arguably see it differently in Western Christianity, where some call the Sunday in Ascensiontide “the Seventh Sunday of Easter”. To me, that's just a way of counting, just as one can say "your seventh birthday" without meaning that the kid was born on seven days.) What do you guys think? Would that be an improvement?
On the fine end of the classification, I think we can drastically cut down the number of articles. Many of the article links are just doubling or tripling the work we have done with overview articles and categories, and when we try collecting them in this template, it will never come anywhere near being useful. Examples:
  • Much as I love music, I think it's absurd to try to collect every piece of music pertaining to Easter in this template, as absurd as it would be to pack all Christmas songs into Template:Christmas. We already have List of Easter hymns as well as categories for Music for Easter, Easter songs and more. How about if we replaced all individual song or composition articles with those? Moreover, as it currently is, the structure stashes away some songs in other branches of the structure, such as under “Easter Vigil”, which makes them hard to discover for readers searching for music.
  • The fine granularity of Season (actually: Eastertide)OctaveBright Week might look compelling at first glance, but when one sees links under the finest level (such as Easter Wednesday) that are just redirects to the article two levels up, the whole structure looks very dubious. Even those, like Third Sunday of Easter, that have their own articles can be easily accessed via Eastertide or other pertinent articles and categories.
A remark about the levels in the middle: The sub-branches and sub-sub-branches that have no links are very likely cases of putting the cart before the horse. If we don't have an article for a branch, then the branch is probably not important to be stuck on each and every Easter article. So, would a radical fasting cure be in order? ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 19:31, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
