Why does Europe links to European_ethnic_groups?, there are already some indigenous people in northern Finland--Andersmusician VOTE 17:30, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We haven't (sadly) got a definition for the indigenous peoples for Europe. Are they sub-national ethnic peoples with their own language ? Goths were definitely European for a long time, but the great mirgations mixed them up. Maybe they overthrew some Celts in France and destroyed some more ancient Roman peoples (Etruscans). There's so much history that it is difficult, on occasion (even if nationalism is thrown overboard), to tell who are the original people of the area (and where the 'center' of a large people has been prior the expansion. Basques definitely fit in every definition, Sami as well, Celts (who possibly overthrew the Picts) possibly, etc... Maybe it could link to Category:Indigenous_peoples_of_Europe ? 88.195.46.112 (talk) 18:18, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Indigenous peoples of Europe article takes care of this issue. It states that "there is no universal, standard or fixed definition". It still deals with the topic and is the most appropriate link for this template. Neelix (talk) 12:28, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Continents

[edit]

This template should be about continents. Since how long the Arctic is a continent, and South and North America one continent? FonsScientiae (talk) 17:49, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think a reversal is best as we now have now have 2 links to the Americans (one is a redirect) and no link to Circumpolar Arctic. The current version does not solve the original concern as the "Oceania" is also not a content. Will wait 2 days before reverting and moving template to "Indigenous peoples by geographic region".Moxy (talk) 20:06, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please see the Continent article. The same region which here is called "Oceania" is the continent "Australia" which encompasses the country of Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, and all the various islands in the Pacific Ocean. The article of Indigenous peoples of the Americas, Indigenous peoples of Europe, and Indigenous peoples of Asia contain indigenous people of the Artic circle and again it is not a continent as the name of the template says. You are correct - all is fine my fault sorry.Moxy (talk) 21:25, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad we reached consensus FonsScientiae (talk) 21:43, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Continent article, many people define South and North America as one continent. I personally don't, but considering the Indigenous peoples of the Americas article is really good and the Indigenous peoples of South America is a redirect to Indigenous peoples in South America which is little more than a stub list, I'm willing to make an exception for the benefit of wikipedia. - TheMightyQuill (talk) 03:54, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
