I think that all the red links look strange. They don't look encouraging but offputting, like the template is still work in progress. Did you add all 190 countries to this template? I don't there was ever an intention to set up a Wikipedia article for water supply and sanitation in each of those 190 countries but the focus was on developing countries. Your answer is not really answering my question. Have you added all 190 countries to this template? If not, how did you decide on which countries to pick? If yes, I think it's wrong because there is no intention by anyone to have an article on all countries of the world about their water supply and sanitation. That was never the intention, and is highly unrealistic and unwanted in my opinion. EMsmile (talk) 04:36, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't add all yet, but the intention is to eventually add, yes. There would most probably never be a "an article on all countries of the world about their water supply and sanitation", but there will definitely be articles on each country's water supply and sanitation at some point obviously. Did I answer your question? Rehman05:10, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You answered my question but I disagree with you. I'd find so many red links very off-putting and not adding any value. EMsmile (talk) 04:20, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Red linking is not something I decided on my own, but rather a Wikipedia editing policy. Hence you are not actually disagreeing with me, but the policy in general. You are free to voice your opinion on the policy talkpage though, if you still feel the need to remove red links. Rehman04:29, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well there is also a whole section on when NOT to create red links, see here. It says there "Do not create red links to articles that are not likely to be created" which is exactly the point that I have been making. Most of those red link articles that you created there are unlikely to ever be created. It also says there "Red links may be used on navigation templates with links to existing articles, but they cannot be excessive. Editors who add excessive red links to navboxes are expected to actively work on building those articles, or they may be removed from the template." EMsmile (talk) 14:14, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thailand and Brazil are similar but I am mainly referring to the developed countries. The suite of articles was focused on developing countries, not developed countries. The standard headings that the suite of article uses would make little sense for e.g. all the European countries. Overall, I just think a template with about 100 red links is very offputting. It would be about 100 red links if you create one for each country, given that about 100 country articles exist already and there are about 200 countries in total. Hi @Jarble:, good point. What's the exact syntax to be used? Could you write it out here or implement it for one of the pages that uses that template, just as an example? Thanks. EMsmile (talk) 10:10, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've just made the "by region" group more visible more visible by moving it up in the table. Should the template perhaps be renamed to "Water supply and sanitation by country and region"? EMsmile (talk) 13:15, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
