The Avion is the student-led college media publication of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, United States. The Avion publishes four regular print issues as well as three special issues per semester, and has a print circulation of approximately 1,000. The newspaper has a history dating back to Embry-Riddle's earliest days in Miami.[citation needed]

Publication schedule

[edit]

The Avion is published several times during the fall and spring semesters, a total of roughly 10-14 issues per year. It is not published in the summer. The Avion publishes four special issues: an orientation edition in late August, a joke/satire edition, also known as The Avioff, mid-Spring, a Student Life issue in late Fall or early Spring, and a Student Government Association Elections Issue in the Spring.[citation needed]

Subscriptions

[edit]

The magazine is distributed free of charge to members of the school community. Mail subscriptions are available for $20 per year.[citation needed]

Organization

[edit]

The Avion is a division of the Embry-Riddle Student Government Association, which partially funds the organization. The magazine is run entirely by students, and most of the contributors are volunteers. In addition to the magazine, The Avion has a weekly broadcast series, website, and social media pages which are regularly updated.[citation needed]

The Editor-in-Chief is elected by a majority vote of the publication's staff and receives a 25% tuition voucher for his or her services. Executive Board members are also elected by the staff, and each executive board member receives a 10% tuition voucher.[citation needed]
