Tung Shin Hospital (simplified Chinese: 同善医院; traditional Chinese: 同善醫院; pinyin: Tóngshàn Yīyuàn), a non-profit healthcare institution, has served the Kuala Lumpur community for over 140 years. Established in 1881 by the Kapitan Yap Kwan Seng.[1], it began as a small clinic named Pooi Shin Thong,[2], dedicated primarily to providing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments to the underprivileged. By 1895, as Kuala Lumpur grew with the tin-mining industry, the clinic expanded into a community hospital, renamed Tung Shin Hospital, meaning "hospital dedicated to charity."

Growth and Services

Today, Tung Shin Hospital is a tertiary acute care hospital that integrates both modern medical practices and traditional healing. It offers a wide range of specialized services through its outpatient clinics, covering Cardiology, Clinical Oncology, Dermatology, ENT, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, General & Interventional Radiology, Internal Medicine, Neurosurgery, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Rehabilitative Medicine, and Urology.

The hospital is equipped with advanced facilities, including a Cardiac Care Department, Cancer Care Department, Medical Rehabilitation Department, one-stop Birthing Suite, Haemodialysis Unit, Medical Laboratory, and Audiometry Room. These facilities support a range of comprehensive medical services under one roof, ensuring holistic and convenient care for the community.

Commitment to Community Care

Tung Shin Hospital remains deeply committed to accessible, quality healthcare. Accredited by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH), the hospital attracts both local and international healthcare professionals, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. Despite its expansion, Tung Shin Hospital stays rooted in its original mission of serving the community with humility and compassion, focusing on affordable healthcare that does not compromise on safety and quality.

It owns and operates Tung Shin Academy of Nursing,[3] a private nursing college located in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
