INEZ[edit]

Danielle Inez Walker also known as INEZ (/aɪ-ɛn-iː-zɛd/; born August 9, 1991) is an American Singer-Songwriter, Producer, Musician & Audio Engineer.

Life and Career[edit]

Early Life[edit]

Danielle Inez Walker was born on August 9, 1991 and is a “Homewood Native/Pittsburgh Resident” millennial musician. She grew up in a loving household of intellectuals, musicians, and playwrights. Her parents and three brothers have balanced decades-long careers, dedication to their spiritual community, and the fun of an immensely talented family. INEZ’s talent and work ethic is a testament to the hard work and love she was raised on. Her Homewood roots were cultivated in a deep sense of respect for artistry and craftsmanship that took her from the shy tiny girl with the inquiring eyes to the sure-shot body rocking vocalist with a runaway laugh and fierce range of drum licks.

Education[edit]

INEZ is a Pittsburgh Public School graduate, as an alum of Perry High School. There, INEZ played quads and also played drum kit in the Jazz band. She later went on to become a graduate of the Berklee College of Music (Cum Laude) ℅ 2018, earning her Bachelors degree in Music Production.

Projects[edit]

Her debut album is Voicemails and Conversations, following her many contributions on personal pieces and other artist's pieces. These contributions include engineering expertise on Clara Kent's 'Foolish' and 'The Call', Benji.'s 'Family Ties' (along with Featuring and Writing contributions), WYEP's Reimagination 7, along with producing and mentoring Na' Chelle Simone's 'Rise Up' (piano, production, vocal production, mixing and engineering).

Artistry[edit]

INEZ is a musical virtuoso. Her voice consists of multi faceted intensity with uninterrupted focus; her range changeable from breathy to bellowing. She is a full lyric soprano with a contralto B-side. Her style encompasses mixed melodies, stacked harmonies, and differing beats such as heartbeat rhythms. She also plays a variety of instruments, the drums and guitar being her primary expertise. INEZ has a main purpose in her artistry which is fueled by her dedication to solidarity with other Black women and femme artists.

Voice and Songwriting[edit]

She describes her voice and purpose in the following words; “I have the concept, I have movement, I am in the process of recording. So I know where the end is gonna be. I’m just working to fill in the middle while not putting too much pressure on myself creatively. People say “It’s just one of those that develop organically.” I feel like the best music I’ve ever made has been accidental or I can’t explain how I did it. But there are some pieces that I already know I want to put in and incorporate.” [1]

Influence[edit]

Her main influences include Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Jazmine Sullivan, Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Danja, Lauryn Hill, Nina Simone, Brandy Norwood, Paramore, Jhené Aiko, and B.B. King.

Music Videos and Stage Presence[edit]

Her debut music video is a single from her album Voicemails and Conversations; entitled 'Get It Off Your Chest' in which her inspiration for visuals are a “Declaration of her own independence from hurt, with the support from women in her life, affirmed her belief that Black Women are the backbone of life.”. The video also includes Westinghouse Park, her neighborhood, demonstrating the beauty within Homewood. Demonstrates “flashes” of who she is. Simplistic yet filled with a wider range of depth within.

Performances:

  1. Performed at Hartwood Acres Amphitheatre
  2. Mr. Small’s Theater ‘Pittsburgh’s Very Own’ put on by Opus One Productions & 107.3 The Beat “Last Saturday, Mr. Small's Theatre hosted the August iteration of the Pittsburgh’s Very Own concert series, and while it was typical of the earlier concerts in many respects — an all-local showcase of the city’s most exciting and promising talent — the lineup was atypical. For the first time at this series, and generally a rarity for live music in Pittsburgh, all the performers were women of color: Leila Rhodes, INEZ, Sierra Sellers, and Simone Davis. It was an encouraging moment for music fans in Pittsburgh who want to see more diverse lineups, but it also illustrated how low the bar is and how far the scene has to go.” [2]
  3. Opened at Thunderbird Cafe for The Soul Rebels
  4. Acoustic Love Vol 1 Feat Simone Davis & Clara Kent From INEZ With Love LLC at Club Cafe (sold-out)
