Juan-Pablo Gonzalez-Velasco (born 2 February 1999), sometimes known as Juanpa,[2] is a Colombian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Hadley. He is a product of the Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur academies and signed his first professional contract with CD Lugo in 2017.
Club career
[edit]Brentford
[edit]A midfielder, González began his youth career in his native Colombia with Boca Juniors de Cali,[3] before joining the academy at English club Brentford.[4] He was a member of the Brentford U15 squad which won the Junior Globe at the 2014 Milk Cup and he progressed to sign a two-year scholarship deal at the end of the 2014–15 season.[5][6] As a result of the closing of the club's academy at the end of the 2015–16 season,[7] González had his scholarship terminated by mutual consent on 31 August 2016.[8] He had made 18 appearances for the youth team, without scoring.[9]
Tottenham Hotspur
[edit]On 31 August 2016, González joined the academy at Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur as a second-year scholar.[4] He was released at the end of the 2016–17 season.[10]
CD Lugo
[edit]In early August 2017, González moved to Spain to sign his first professional contract with Segunda División club CD Lugo.[11] He made his non-competitive first team debut for the club a matter of days later, in a 2–1 pre-season friendly win over SD Ponferradina, which clinched the 2017 Vila de Foz Trophy.[11] He failed to win a call into the first team squad and was released at the end of the 2017–18 season.[2]
Bedfont Sports
[edit]In September 2018, González returned to England to join Isthmian League South Central Division club Bedfont Sports on a free transfer.[12] He made four appearances for the club before his departure in late 2018.[13]
Pirin Blagoevgrad
[edit]On 11 February 2019, González transferred to Bulgarian Second League club Pirin Blagoevgrad and signed an 18-month contract.[14] Predominantly utilised as a substitute, he made 10 appearances and scored one goal in what remained of the 2018–19 season.[15]
Return to non-League football
[edit]In August 2020, González joined Hertfordshire Senior County League Premier Division club Hatfield Town,[16] before moving to Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division club Edgware Town in November 2020.[17] He made one appearance before the abandonment of the 2020–21 season and transferred to Southern League Premier Division South club Hendon on 4 August 2021.[18][19][20] After making two appearances,[21] he joined Isthmian League South Central Division club Northwood the following month.[22][23] Following a one-off cup appearance with Edgware Town,[24] González returned to Bedfont Sports in November 2021.[25] He made his final appearance for the club on 15 January 2022 and thereafter made sporadic appearances back with Edgware Town.[24][25] González played sporadically for Southern League First Division Central club Hadley during the 2022–23 season.[26] He began the 2023–24 season with Combined Counties League Premier Division North club Edgware & Kingsbury.[24]
Sunday league football
[edit]Concurrent with his career in non-League football, González has made appearances on an ad-hoc basis for Sunday league, amateur, midweek and youth league clubs, including Old Aloysians,[28] Gower All Stars,[29] Independiente London and Crystal Palace U23 Roehampton.[30][31]
International career
[edit]González was called up to Colombia youth training camps.[32]
Coaching career
[edit]As of April 2022, González was coaching at A Academy in London.[33]
Personal life
[edit]González was born in Cali, Colombia and moved to England at age 13.[3] His mother is Spanish.[34]
