Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 is a sports video game developed by EA Tiburon for the PlayStation 3, Wii (titled Tiger Woods PGA 09 All Play) and Xbox 360 versions and Exient Entertainment for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable versions and published by EA Sports for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii and Xbox 360.

Reception[edit]

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 received "mixed or average" reviews on the PlayStation Portable and "generally favorable" reviews on other platforms, according to review aggregator Metacritic.[20][21][22][23]

Eurogamer praised the seamless integration of EA GamerNet into the main game, though criticized its server reliablility.

Eurogamer criticized elements of micro-transactions in the game "which has no place in a game as balanced as this".

Game Informer praised the selection of courses.

GameSpot praised the improved online capabilities. GameSpot criticized being unable to skip CPU golfer turns. GameSpot praised the customization for being a simple process.

GameZone called the gameplay "solid". GameZone praised the simultaneous multiplayer GameZone praised the inclusion of the Club Tuner mechanic GameZone criticized the removal of minigames and online play in the PSP version. GameZone criticized the scripted nature of the commentary.

IGN praized the Club Tuner mechanic, calling it a "great addition." IGN criticized the new commentary.

Destructoid praised the gameplay, citing it as the title's "greatest strength".

Game Informer criticized the game's new skill system and the inclusion of a digital Hank Haney, preferring the previous title's skill system and calling Hank's mechanics "boring", claiming that he offers "nothing insightful". They praised the addition of a real-time swing indicator. GameSpot welcomed the Dynamic skill progression. GameSpot welcomed the addition of Hank Haney. IGN criticized Hank Haney's addition and mechanics. IGN criticized Hank Haney's voice acting, describing it as "some of the worst voice acting I've heard".

Destructoid said the control scheme was perfected with the addition of the game's new swing feedback system. Eurogamer heavily criticized the motion controls of the Wii version. GameSpot praised the more "forgiving" controls.

GamerZone praised the motion controls of the Wii version, stating that though not perfect, it's "the best any golf game has done to date". While the game's player models and animations were highly praised for their realism by Destructoid, some elements such as poorly rendered trees and crowds were criticized for their inconsistency.

GameSpot criticized glitchy animation transitions. GameSpot praised the graphics of the courses and golfers.

GameZone noted that while the graphics were subpar compared to the PS3 and XBOX360 versions, they were still "above average" for a Wii game.

Eurogamer said the graphics were "nothing special". They criticized the animations and background elements for it's quality.

IGN praised the graphical improvements in some areas, but said that it "still needs work in others."


Destructoid found appeal to the game's soundtrack, preferring it over those from Madden 09.

GameSpot praised the game's soundtrack, calling it "excellent".

In Japan, where the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii versions were released in 2008 to 2009, Famitsu gave the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions a score of one six, one seven, one six and one seven, for a total of 26 out of 40;[4] the same magazine later gave the Wii version a better score of one seven, one eight, one seven and one eight, for a total of 30 out of 40.[5]

The Wii version was nominated for several Wii-specific awards by IGN in its 2008 video game awards, including Best Sports Game,[24] Best Local Multiplayer Game,[25] Best Online Multiplayer Game,[26] and Best Use of the Wii-Mote.[27]
