Why is the page protected ?

Administrators are highly experienced users with special knowledge of maintenance areas. If a user with a low number of edits is nominated for adminship, it will be difficult for the community to judge the candidate adequately, leading to an early closure and a loss of interest in Wikipedia. To prevent such a situation the page is protected.

How to become an admin ?

While there are no hard and fast official requirements for adminship, members of the the community have various criteria by which they establish if a candidate is ready for adminship and if they appear to have read the simple guide to adminship, advice for Rfa candidates, or asked for prior feedback at the Optional Rfa Poll. You may also ask another experienced editor to nominate you, after you are ready.

Hi, and thanks for offering your services as an administrator or nominator. Please read the Wikipedia page on Administrators, as well as Wikipedia's Guide to requests for adminship and Advice for RfA candidates pages before proceeding with a nomination.

The administrator toolset is a senior-level user right that is not for new, moderate, proficient, or even somewhat-experienced users. Candidates who are successful have usually made thousands of edits to articles and housekeeping tasks. Administrators need to know and understand how Wikipedia handles deletion and copyright concerns, and other policies, and they must be able to show that they can exercise sound judgment in complex situations.

Applications from editors without considerable experience are usually quickly declined as premature. If you are unsure if an RfA nomination is reasonable, please ask an admin or an established user for advice. There is also a list of experienced editors willing to consider nominating candidates.
