Susan Harrell (born Susan Mary Harrell on September 30, 1981) is an American contemporary photorealist painter from Asheboro, North Carolina. Harrell is a self-taught visual artist who first began producing originals in 2009, after first honing her skills by painting portraits and replicating the works of classic Renaissance masters.[1] She currently lives and works in Greensboro, North Carolina. Harrell has participated in the ongoing downtown improvement efforts of her hometown by taking on mural projects in partnership with the City of Asheboro and local businesses. Her first project was the restoration of a historic mural depicting an actual street-scape and townspeople from long ago. She received favorable media coverage for various mural projects, and became known in the surrounding region for her realistic style of painting as well as her compelling personal story involving a long struggle with depression prior to finding restoration in her Christian faith[2]. She debuted in the international art community with the help of respected Robert Lange Studio Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina. In early 2014, she completed a large mural for the city of Randleman, North Carolina, giving tribute to the natural beauty and mill-town heritage of that community.[3]
