Selected Anniversaries tutorial[edit]

  1. Open the date's talk page and edit the previous year's section for ease in a separate page.
  2. Put in "[Year] notes" in level two heading
  3. Bullet them with the order going Deleted:, Moved to Ineligible:, Rescued from Ineligible:, New articles (unused), New articles (ineligible):, Omitted:, Included:, Repeats:4
  1. Included:
    1. Open the page's WP:Main Page history from this year and scroll down to "On This Day"
    2. One at a time, open the bolded text(s), copy the article title into your clipboard.
    3. Go to the talk page and scroll to either the article milestones tab or the banner and count the number of appearances (including this year) and the last appearance.
    4. Double check this by Ctrl+F the WT page and comparing notes
    5. If the same page was included in last year's, move the entry into the repeats column and count the number of consecutive years along with the total
    6. After each one is done, open a calculator and note any significant anniversaries, (Multiples of tens, twenty-five, fifty, or hundred).
  2. Omitted:
    1. Open last year's WP:Main Page history and scroll down to "On This Day"
    2. Copy and paste last year's "Included" and "Repeats" into the Omitted slot, and reorder
    3. Double-check the date of each of the omitted entries by clicking on the date and ensuring that the entry is still there.
    4. If not, go into the article and Ctrl+F the date to make sure the date is still accurate and was not moved.
    5. Compare the repeats to your omitted section and remove any that are repeats.
  3. Sign on new line and save.
  1. The Rest:
    1. Open the date's Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries page two times. Pick the latest revision on that date of this year and last year and open the staging area box on both.
    2. Compare last year's ineligibles with this year's.
      1. If an entry is missing from this year's revision, check to see if it was moved to eligibles. If it was, add the entry into Rescued from Ineligible:.
      2. If it was moved to the staging area, then add a note to its entry in Included: saying "rescued from Ineligible"
      3. If it is nowhere to be found, check the talk page for any discussion, or the revisions for an edit summary on to why it was removed. Then write the entry into Deleted: and give a reason.
    3. Compare this year's ineligibles with last year's.
      1. If an entry is missing from last year's revision, check to see if it was previously eligible. If it was, add the entry into Moved to Ineligible: and give a reason.
      2. If it was moved from the staging area, move the corresponding entry from the omitted section to Moved to Ineligible: and give a reason.
      3. If it is nowhere to be found, check the talk page for any discussion, or the revision it was added in. Then write the entry into New Articles (ineligible): and give a reason.
    4. Compare all of last year's eligibles and staging area events to this year's. Note: The event is only listed once between both of them so you must look at both!
      1. If an entry is missing in this year's revision, check to see if it is already listed in Moved to Ineligible:
      2. If not, check the talk page for any discussion, or the revisions for an edit summary on why it was removed. Then write the entry into Deleted: and give a reason.
    5. Compare all of this year's eligibles and staging area events to last year's. Note: The event is only listed once between both of them so you must look at both!
      1. If an entry is missing from last year's check to see if it was from the ineligibles. If so, the entry should already be list in Rescued from Ineligible: or in Included: with a note.
      2. If it is nowhere to be found, check the talk page for any discussions, or the revision it was added in. Then write the entry into New articles (unused): if it is now in eligible. If it is in the staging area, it should already have an entry in Included: and have a note saying (first nomination). Double-check that it wasn't previously deleted by comparing the notes section.
    6. Do the same steps above comparing all the births and deaths in both the eligibles and staging area.
