Manfred Profazi has taken up the duties as Chief of IOM Mission in Ukraine on 11 January, 2010.

A German National, he received his Masters’ Degree in Political Science, with an emphasis on Migration and International Relations at the Free University in Berlin.

Before joining IOM in 1997, Mr. Profazi worked as a consultant at the German Institute for Economic Research (Deutsches Institut fuer Wirtschaftsforschung, DIW) in Berlin, Germany, and at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in Vienna, Austria.

He started his career with IOM as a consultant at the IOM Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mr. Profazi worked as Programme Manager of the Return of Qualified Afghans Programme in Kabul, Afghanistan, for three years after having been the Head of Office and Operations Coordinator of IOM’s Liaison Office in Berlin for five years.

Before his current assignment, Mr. Profazi served as IOM’s Executive Officer in Jakarta, Indonesia. Prior to that, he worked as Head of IOM’s Earthquake Response Operation in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, after having served as the Executive Officer and Head of Office a.i. of IOM’s Tsunami Response Operation in Aceh, Indonesia.
