Artificial Turf and Football[edit]

  • The artificial football turf is made of synthetic fibers made to look like real grass.
  • The first generation turf systems are replaced by the second and third generation turf systems.
  • recycled rubber

  • The main reason they're used is because of maintenance.
  • Artificial turf first gained substantial attention in the 1960s, when it was used in the newly constructed Astrodome. The specific product used was developed by Monsanto and called AstroTurf; this term since then became a generic trademark for many artificial turf throughout the late 20th century.

Alternative materials that can be used:

Claim: I think that Olefin would be a suitable material as a football field turf, because it wicks away water, dries up quickly, and has a great bulk and cover while having low specific gravity.
Reasoning: Evidence
1] Olefin dries up quickly. This property of Olefin is known to us, and is proven scientifically.
2]It is used to make carpets, home furnitures, rugs, etc. so I think it could also be made into a turf of a football field. We use it in our daily lives.
3]Finally it is suitable because it matches with all the factors of being used as turfs and enhancing performance... these factors of Olefin can be observed. It is best because, rayon- has a slippery texture, polyester does not meet with the drying factor, and nylon does not dye well...

Claim - Evidence - Reasoning

I think that Olefin would be a suitable material as a football field turf, because it wicks away water, dries up quickly, and has a great bulk and cover while having low specific gravity. Olefin dries up quickly. This property of Olefin is known to us, and is proven scientifically. It is used to make carpets, home furnitures, rugs, etc. so, I think it could also be made into a turf of a football field. We use it in our daily lives. Finally it is suitable because it matches with all the factors of being used as turfs and enhancing performance; *drying quickly, *absorbing dye, *strength, * absorbency, * surface texture... these factors can be observed in Olefin. It is best because, rayon- has a slippery texture, polyester does not meet with the drying factor, nylon doesnot dye well...

Olefin fibres meets with all these factors and seems suitable, so I suggest that Olefin can be used as a

material for turf.
