Article Evaluation[edit]

Article Evaluation 1: Nativism (politics)

Before reading this article I did not realize that a common Republican policy had its own name and place away from typical political parties such as the Democrats and Republicans. The first paragraph is a great opener, telling us exactly what Nativism is.

After explaining the definition of nativism the article goes on to exemplify the political stance by country, which I think was done very well. Separating each country into its own section prevents confusion for the reader who might miss the topic change from, for example, the U.S. to Canada.

Next, the article explains Nativism throughout history. Organizing time periods chronologically was the best approach, just like how countries were alphabetically ordered.

As far as I can tell, because there are far too many to check each and every one, all external and internal links appear to be working just fine, and a sufficient amount of information is linked and cited.

The article itself is incredibly informative and non-biased.

Looking at the talk page I can tell that this article has undergone a great deal of work, and most, if not all, contributions are well thought out and helpful. ~~~~

Report Card[edit]

As a former Representative of Kansas, Pompeo has an extensive report card covering his 6 years in Congress. Even after his appointment as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, followed by his current job as United States Secretary of State, he continues to receive ratings from interest groups, although not as many interests groups focus on him following his vacancy.

Each interest group has their own way of calculating ratings for each Member of Congress. For example, the National Rifle Association rates members on a scale of A to F based on the member's gun-related legislative history. [1] The NAACP grades members of Congress similarly, grading based on that member's voting behavior with civil rights issues concerning the NAACP. [2] Some interest groups even list criteria which legislators must meet in order to score better. The National Education Association lists their criteria as follows:[3]

  • Cosponsorship of bills critical to advancing NEA’s identified legislative priorities;
  • Behind- the-scenes work to advance or impede NEA priority issues;
  • Committee votes in support of or against NEA priorities;
  • Accessibility of the Member and staff in Washington, DC to NEA staff and leaders; and
  • Accessibility and education advocacy in the Member’s home state or district.

Most interest groups detail their rating process on their website.

Interest groups create these report cards members of Congress in order to hold them accountable for their legislation, good or bad.

Conservative interest groups, such as Campaign for Working Families and National Right to Life Committee, give Pompeo such high ratings due to their corresponding party affiliations. On the other end of the spectrum, NARAL Pro-Choice America consistently gives him painfully low ratings due to their clashing ideals.

Below is a list of Mike Pompeo's ratings from various Interest groups. The tables are organized by year, and from highest to lowest rating. [4]
