The development of the video games Pokémon Gold Version and Silver Version began in 1996, shortly after the release of their predecessors Pokémon Red and Blue.

Junichi Masuda was promoted to assistant director during the development of Pokémon Gold and Silver.[1]

Difficulties[edit]

Junichi Masuda was in charge of sound design for the original Pokémon games, but was promoted to the role of assistant director during the development of Gold and Silver.[1]

Satoru Iwata's input[edit]

Composition[edit]

The soundtrack of Pokémon Gold and Silver was programmed in by Junichi Masuda on an Amiga computer, converted to MIDI data and converted again to the Game Boy Color. The original sound files have since been lost.[2]
