From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Holland Power Plant, officially the Archibald D. Holland Central Heating & Cooling Power Plant, is a power plant located in the Georgia Institute of Technology Historic District, at 680 Power Plant Drive NW, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. It is the oldest of three power plants serving the main campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Name

[edit]

The plant is named for Archibald Dinsmore Holland.[1] Holland received an M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech in 1930.[2] In the 1940s, he served as the Institute's Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds.[3] In the 1950s Holland was a professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering.[4]

History

[edit]

The power plant was designed by Francis Palmer Smith (1886-1971), a prominent Atlanta architect who was at that time head of Georgia Tech's new architecture program.[1][5]
