Kristina Schoonjans is since 2015[1] a professor of biology at EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) and the head of the Laboratory of Metabolic Signaling.

Career[edit]

During her doctorate in the University of Lille in France, she studied the role of the role of the PPAR nuclear receptor family on the metabolism, work for which she obtained her Ph.D in Molecular Biology and Pharmacology in 1995.[2]

She moved then to the Institut Pasteur de Lille until 1999 for a postdoctoral training in the same research area.[2]

She continued her carrer as a research scientist in Strasbourg, in the Institut de Génétique de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (IGBMC), where she became research director with INSERM in 2007.[2]

Kristina Schoonjans is member of the editorial board of Molecular Endocrinology and Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology.[2] She is also a consulting editor for the Journal Clinics and Research in Hepatology and Gastroenterology[3].

Awards and honors[edit]

  • 2010 Windaus Prize (Adolf Windaus won the 1928 Nobel Prize for the identification of steroid hormones and vitamin D; the prize honors discoveries in the same general field)[4]
