7Epsilon

7Epsilon is a process improvement technique applicable for manufacturing industries. It comprises a computational model of risk based tolerance synthesis. It has a 7 step approach (Section 4) for process improvement. The steps are designed to prevent or reduce the occurrence of undesired effects in manufacturing processes and achieve continual improvement. Undesired effects are deviations from the expected process results and continual improvement is a recurring activity that enhances process performance. A few examples of continual process improvement are in-process quality and operational efficiency improvement, waste reduction and better management of organizational knowledge.

The predictive analytics tools used in 7Epsilon are based on risk based tolerance synthesis[1] [7] and uncertainty quantification [8] methods in order to discover and reuse product-specific process knowledge [10,13]. The in-process data is collected from various data sources including Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Mr Phil George at Rockwell Automation, UK has interpreted 7Epsilon as Six Sigma + IIoT [6] to emphasise the link between risk based tolerance synthesis, real time process monitoring with IIoT and the opportunities for enterprise/plant wide optimisation.
