Mu Theta Nu (MΘN or Math) is a local all-male secret and social college fraternity founded in the Fall of 1868, at Christian University (now Culver-Stockton College. The organization's current form is the Zeta Pi chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon, though the chapter's members retain their membership with MΘN as a local tradition. The fraternity was active from 1868 until 1959, when the membership voted to join Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) as the Zeta Pi chapter, and then again from 1984-1991, a period during which the Zeta Pi chapter had disaffiliated with TKE. Starting in 2014, the active TKE membership officially and permanently revived the membership process of MΘN.

History[edit]

In the Fall of 1868, 7 Christian University students - David R. Hand, Robert L. Lotz, Thaddeus Wagner, Joseph H. Donley, Thomas McAdams, Napoleon B. Durham, and James C. McQuary - founded the Mathetrophian Literary Society, the second all-male social organization on campus, the first being the Hawkins Literary Institute. The founders of the Mathetrophian Literary Society felt that Hawkins' organization was too conservative and opted to form their own, based on their shared values.
