Grandchildren of Sarah and Alfred Fox of Glendurgan

Alfred Fox married Sarah Lloyd on 16 May 1828 [1] and they had twelve children: Alfred Lloyd Fox, Theodore Fox, Rachel Elizabeth Fox, Sarah Charlotte Fox, Mary Fox, Howard Fox, Helen Maria Fox, Lucy Ann Fox, Charles William Fox, George Henry Fox, Wilson Lloyd Fox, Sophia Lloyd Fox.

Alfred Lloyd Fox[edit]

Alfred Lloyd Fox, was born at Falmouth, 26th May, 1829.

He married, at Tottenham, 15th March, 1864, Mary Jane, daughter of Francis Fox, of Tottenham Their children were:

  • Alfred Francis Fox, born at Penmere, Falmouth, 7th April, 1867 and died on 13 Feb 1947 in London aged 79 [2].
  • Hubert Fox, born 15th January, 1870 in Penmere and died on 10 Jan 1949 in London aged 78 [2].
  • William Edward Fox was born on 16 Dec 1872 in Penmere and died on 2 Jun 1948 in London aged 75 [2].

Theodore Fox[edit]

Theodore Fox, born at Falmouth, 4th April, 1831; married, at Norwich, 26th March, 1857, Harriet Howell, daughter of John Paul Kirkbride, and Ann Eliza his wife. She was born at Bristol, 14th January, 1828. Their children were:

  • Theodore Alfred Fox, born at Drymma, near Neath, 1st February, 1858 and died on 2 February 1923 in Philadelphia USA aged 65.
  • Edwin Kirkbride Fox, born at Drymma, near Neath, 14th May, 1859 died on 15 August 1954 in Grange Over Sands aged 95.
  • Eliza Gurney Fox, born at Drymma, near Neath, 9th July, 1861 and died on 8 Aug 1922 aged 61.
  • Herbert Lloyd Fox, born at Drymma, near Neath, 29th June, 1863 died on 24 June 1914 in Okanagan Lake, British Columbia aged 50.
  • Harriet Beatrice Fox, born at Pinchinthorpe, Guisborough, 30th September, 1865 and died on 25 February 1933 in Plymouth aged 67.

Theodore Fox died 27 September 1899.

Rachel Elizabeth Fox[edit]

Rachel Elizabeth Fox was born at Falmouth, 6th February, 1833; She married first, at Falmouth, 27th April, 1854,Samuel Lindoe Fox (16 June 1830 ) ,[4]. He died at Tottenham, 22nd November, 1862. Their children were:

  • Samuel Middleton Fox, born at Tottenham, 16th March, 1856.
  • Charlotte Maria Fox, born at Tottenham, 23rd December, 1857.

In 1854, Rachel Elizabeth Fox married secondly at Falmouth, 11th September, 1867 to Philip Debell Tuckett (born at Wellington, Somerset 6th June, 1830 – 1894) son of Philip Debell Tuckett,of Frenchay [5]. Their children were:

  • Philip Debell Tuckett, born in London, 22nd December, 1868.
  • Percival Fox Tuckett, born in London, 21st August, 1870.
  • Ivor Lloyd Tuckett, born 1873 [6].

Sarah Charlotte Fox[edit]

Sarah Charlotte Fox was born on 15 March 1834.

On 27 October 1852 she married Sir Robert Nicholas Fowler,(12 September 1828 – 22 May 1891), a banker, M.P. for the Penryn and Falmouth Constituency 1868 – 1874 , Conservative M.P. for the City of London Constituency 1880 – 1891 and Lord Mayor of London. He was created a Baronet in 1885, [7].

They had ten daughters and one son:

  • Lucy Charlotte Fowler was born on 25 January 1855 in Tottenham and died on 28 March 1897 in London aged 42.
  • Charlotte Rachel Fowler was born on 29 October 1856 in Tottenham and died on 19 June 1930 in Balevoulin, Pitlochry aged 73. In 1879, Charlotte married Rev. Robert William Barbour. They had five children.
  • Helen Ann Fowler was born on 4 December 1858 in Tottenham, died on 4 November 1910 in Pinchinthorpe aged 51. Helen married Sir Alfred Edward Pease 2nd Baronet Pease of Hutton Lowcross, son of Sir Joseph Whitwell Pease 1st Baronet and Mary Fox (her mother's sister), on 10 February 1880 in Corsham. They had three children.
  • Mary Fowler was born on 11 May 1860 in Tottenham and died on 22 December 1921 in Upper Hale, Surrey aged 61.
  • Harriet Maria Fowler was born on 22 April 1862 in Tunbridge Wells and died on 1 September 1871 in Chippenham, Wiltshire, aged 9.
  • Caroline Fowler was born on 21 June 1863 in Brighton and died on 10 April 1891 in St Mewan, Cornwall aged 27. Caroline married Rev. John Stephen Flynn, on 56 Apr 1888. They had three children.
  • Jean Elizabeth Fowler was born on 11 October 1865 in London and died on 17 April 1944 in Farnham aged 78.
  • Octavia Louisa Fowler was born on 9 January 1867 in Chippenham, Wiltshire and died on 30 September 1903 in Northampton aged 36.
  • Sir Thomas Fowler Bt. was born on 12 August 1868 in London, Killed In Action on 20 April 1902 in South Africa aged 33, during the last significant action if the second Boer War. He was buried at Ficksburg [8]. His sister's husband wrote a memoir of his life [9]
  • Bertha Sophia Fowler was born 13 January 1871 [10].
  • Rachel Elfrida Fowler was born 10 December 1872 [10]

Mary Fox[edit]

Mary Fox was born on 11 August 1835 in Falmouth and died on 3 August 1892 in Brighton aged 56. Mary Fox married Sir Joseph Whitwell Pease 1st Bt. Hutton Lowcross, son of Joseph Pease and Emma Gurney, on 23 August 1854 in Falmouth. They had eight children: Emma Josephine, Alfred Edward, Sarah Charlotte, Joseph Albert, Maud Mary, Helen Blanche, Lucy Ethel and Agnes Claudia Fox.

  • Emma Josephine Pease was born on 25 May 1855 in Darlington. She died on 23 June 1888 in Folkestone aged 33. Emma Pease married Vincent Waldo Calmady-Hamlyn, son of Shilston Calmady-Hamlyn and Sarah Carter , on 17 November 1880 in Guisborough. They had one daughter: Mary Sylvia.
  • Sir Alfred Edward Pease 2nd Bt. Hutton Lowcross was born on 29 June 1857 in Darlington, died on 27 April 1939 in Pinchinthorpe aged 81. Alfred Pease married Helen Ann Fowler, daughter of Sir Robert Nicholas Fowler Bt and Sarah Charlotte Fox , on 10 February 1880 in Corsham. Helen was born on 4 December 1858 in Tottenham. She died on 4 November 1910 in Pinchinthorpe aged 51. They had three children. <<<AE Pease remarried >>>.
  • Sarah Charlotte Pease was born on 1 September 1858 in Darlington and died on 18 April 1929 in Godalming aged 70. Sarah Pease married Howard Hodgkin, son of John Hodgkin and Elizabeth Houghton, on 17 February 1897 in Guisborough. They had one son:
  • Rt. Hon. Joseph Albert Pease Lord Gainford was born on 17 January 1860 in Darlington and died on 15 February 1943 in Headlam Hall, Gainford aged 83. Joseph Pease married Ethel Havelock-Allan, daughter of Lt. General Sir Henry Marshman Havelock-Allan Bt. and Lady Alice Reynolds-Moreton, on 19 October 1886 in Darlington. They had three children.
  • Maud Mary Pease was born on 18 July 1862 in Darlington and died on 28 February 1947 in Pinchinthorpe aged 84.
  • Helen Blanche Pease was born on 18 November 1865 in Darlington and died on 16 Mar1951 in Darlington aged 85. Helen Pease married Edward Lloyd Pease , son of Henry Pease and Mary Lloyd, on 15 January 1890 in Guisborough. Edward was born on 4 Mar 1861 in Darlington and died on 4 Mar 1934 in Hurworth Moor, Darlington aged 73. They had six children.
  • Lucy Ethel Pease was born on 12 July 1867 in Darlington and died on 24 July 1940 in Theydon Bois aged 73. Lucy Pease married Gerald Buxton, son of Edward North Buxton and Emily Digby, on 3 December 1890 in Guisborough. They had four children.
  • Agnes Claudia Fox Pease was born on 14 April 1870 in London and died on 22 January 1955 in Birmingham aged 84. Agnes Pease married Alfred Wilson, son of John Edward Wilson and Catharine Stacey, on 29 November 1898 in Guisborough. They had seven children.

Howard Fox[edit]

Howard Fox was born at Falmouth, 10th December, 1836. He married, at St. John's Wood, London, 19th March, 1864, Olivia Blanche, daughter of Charles and Eliza Orme, of Avenue Road, London.

They had four children, all born in Falmouth:

  • Howard Orme Fox born 16 August 1865
  • Charles Masson Fox, born 9 November 1866.
  • Olivia Lloyd Fox, born 5 February 1868
  • Stella Fox, born 11 December 1876 [11].

Howard Fox died 15 November 1922 [12].

Olivia and Stella gave the Fox-Rosehill Gardens in Falmouth [13] to Falmouth Town Council in 1944

Helen Maria Fox[edit]

Helen Maria Fox (17 November 1838 – 1 May 1928) married, at Falmouth, 13th September, 1860, John William Pease (1836-1901) son of John Beaumont Pease. He was born at Darlington, 13th August, 1836, and died in 1901.

Their children were:

  • Sarah Helen Pease, born at Gateshead, 17th July, 1861.
  • Howard Pease, born at Saltwell, Gateshead, 12th July, 1863.
  • Alice Pease, born at Saltwell, 23rd October, 1865, and died there, 29th August, 1867.
  • Florence Pease, born at Pendower, 8th September, 1867.
  • John William Beaumont Pease, born at Pendower, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 4th July, 1869.

J.W.Pease, with his brother-in-law Thomas Hodgkin (Lucy Ann Fox's husband) founded the Newcastle bank of Hodgkin, Barnett, Pease, Spence & Co, which became part of Lloyds Bank in 1902. His son J.W.B.Pease chaired Lloyds Bank 1922-1945 and in 1936 became Baron Wardington.

Lucy Ann Fox[edit]

Lucy Ann Fox was born at Falmouth, 5 October 1841; died 26 December 1934 [14]. She married, at Falmouth, 7 August 1861, Thomas Hodgkin (29 July 1831 – 2 March 1913), son of John and Elizabeth Hodgkin. He was a Banker and historian Their children were:

  • Lucy Violet Hodgkin, born at Benwell Dene, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 19 March 1869.
  • John Alfred Hodgkin, born at Benwell Dene, 27 February 1871, and died 5 February 1872.

Charles William Fox[edit]

Charles William Fox born13 June 1843, died 18 June 1866 at Neath Abbey.

George Henry Fox[edit]

George Henry Fox was born 27 September 1845. – 13 January 1931). On 22 Mar 1882 in Wanstead, he married Rachel Juliet Fowler (1858 - 30 August 1939). [15].

They had seven children:

  • Bernard Fox was born on 12 October 1883 in Dolveen, Falmouth and died on 4 July 1894 in Plymouth aged 10.
  • Cuthbert Lloyd Fox was born on 22 July 1885 in Dolveen, Falmouth. Cuthbert Fox was High Sheriff of Cornwall 1946/47 [16]
  • Dorothy Juliet Fox was born on 25 May 1887 in Kerris Vean, Falmouth and died on 16 Jul 1937 in Lelant Downs, Cornwall aged 50.
  • Annette Sarah Fox was born in 1889
  • Erica Mary Fox [14561] was born on 7 Jan 1893 in Wodehouse Place, Falmouth and died

on 18 September 1934 in Glendurgan, Falmouth aged 41.

  • Margaret Veronica Fox was born in 1895
  • George Romney Fox was born in 1898

They lived at Glendurgan from 1938 [1].

George Henry Fox died 13 January 1931. Rachel Fox died on 13 Aug 1939 in Bedford.

Wilson Lloyd Fox[edit]

Wilson Lloyd Fox was born 27 January 1847 . He married Augusta Mary Rogers [1](2) [17]. She died on 9 October 1889. He then married Constance Louis Grace Rogers.

Wilson Lloyd Fox died 10 December 1936. There were no children from either marriage.

Sophia Lloyd Fox[edit]

Sophia Lloyd Fox was born at Falmouth, 28th September, 1848, and died 25 December 1870, aged 22, unmarried [18].

Sarah and Alfred's first grandson, Samuel Middleton Fox describes his happy childhood, with a multitude of first cousins in his book, Two homes (1925).
