The Ferrari 158 was a Formula One racing car designed and built by Scuderia Ferrari. It was the successor to the Ferrari 156, which raced alongside the 158 in some races of the 1964 Formula One season.

The Ferrari 156 had been the championship winner in 1961, but by 1963 it was struggling to keep up with the competition from Lotus and BRM.

1964 Formula One season[edit]

In the 1964 championship, John Surtees used the Ferrari 158 to win the German Grand Prix and Italian Grand Prix, and collected enough points in the remaining races, to become the first and only person to win World Championships on both two and four wheels.

In the last two races of the season, the 1964 United States Grand Prix and Mexican Grand Prix, the Ferraris were painted blue and white instead of the usual red, due to a dispute between Ferrari and the Italian Automobile Federation.

The blue and white colours were from the North American Racing Team of Luigi Chinetti, who was the official entrant for the last two races.
