Dana Gluckstein advert tag

[edit]

Hello Adeletron 3030. You placed an advert tag on the Dana Gluckstein article. Please provide examples of promotion content so I can remediate the situation. Gumballhead1of2 (talk) 09:28, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Gumballhead1of2 Hi, thank you for responding. Overall, I thought the writing came off as promotional, and after a bit of searching, I found that some of your phrasing is directly copied from Gluckstein's promotional material. Needless to say, Wikipedia:Plagiarism should be avoided. My suggestion would be:
  • Don't copy phrases or paraphrase closely. Explain things in your own words.
  • Avoid long lists, like in the "Notable portrait photographs" section and "...spark meaningful discussions of racism, colonialism, indigeneity, sustainability, stewardship, justice, care, and healing".
  • Avoid flowery phrasing like "A pivotal career chapter came in 2010" and "spark meaningful discussions"
I think the issue is that the text is written with the intent to impress and make a point, which is fine if you're writing a marketing blurb for a photographer. A Wikipedia article should be much drier, i.e. "This happened in this year. And then this happened. After that, this happened." Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 17:47, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, thank you again for your prior comments. I have made some updates, however maybe my lack of perspective has not fully remediated your concerns. I would sincerely appreciate your additional input in resolving the current issue tags.Gumballhead1of2 (talk) 12:25, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if you're being paid to write this article - which is fine! - you should disclose it at Talk:Dana Gluckstein. Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 17:54, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I am not being paid. Thanks for the input. Your observations are legit. I will take another stab at this.Gumballhead1of2 (talk) 18:10, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gumballhead1of2 Thanks again for replying here and being receptive. Much appreciated! Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 18:12, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will message the Gluckstein photo uploader requesting additional information.Gumballhead1of2 (talk) 04:21, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Adeletron3030. Has the Dana Gluckstein article been sufficiently cleaned up to remove the tags?Gumballhead1of2 (talk) 13:03, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gumballhead1of2 Sorry for not responding you sooner. I think the article looks good. I'm still not sure about the paragraph that begins The United States was one of only four votes against UNDRIP when it was originally adopted..." To me, it's too much detail about the impact of the book. Anyway, nominating for Good Article will get you more actionable and detailed feedback that I could hope to. Thanks for your work on this! Great idea. I submitted a Good article nomination. Gumballhead1of2 (talk) 11:45, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
