Re: Barry Ptolemy

You can start a page about Barry Ptolemy by clicking on the red link and adding material, however, you may want to consider starting it in your user space first. You would do this by editing User:Alexanderxerxes/Barry Ptolemy. When you've finished, you can move it to the article space. You click "move" and change the name, but I've done that for you. I really suggest you focus and concentrate on merging the references inline such that every paragraph (or sentence) is supported by a WP:RS. If you don't do this, there is a chance that someone will eventually delete the article. I will also once again express my concern that you have not divulged your COI. Unsourced content

Please remember, it is very important to use sources at all times, especially when describing something that a living person has said. I am specifically referring to this edit. Well, as you may or may not aware, on the Transcendent Man article we've had to deal with a high profile public relations company using an anonymous IP address. Per the COI policy, it would have been much easier for this person to register an account, declare an interest, and work with Wikipedia editors to improve the subject. I appreciate your response. However, on Wikipedia, your account is commonly referred to as a SPA, and combined with the recent discovery of the anonymous IP account representing the PR compnay, the subsequent creation of your account and your edits appear to be much more than that of a fan, particularly in regards to this obscure, almost unheard of film. To be perfectly honest, your account name ("Alexander Xerxes") appears to pay homage to "Barry Ptolemy". You said you are a friend of his, but I should warn you, per the COI and SPA guidelines, others may not believe you. Viriditas (talk) 08:16, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Actually, I've been making contributions to the Transcendent Man page for at least a couple years, albeit small changes, (please look back at the history). I know nothing about any PR company. The film is at least the most talked about doc this year, having been in the national media's attention since early this year when it came out. I've watched clips of the film on CNN, FOX, MSNBC, Charlie Rose, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher, Jimmy Kimmel, it was in the TIME magazine cover story on Ray Kurzweil who is the subject of the film and it was written up 3 times alone in the New York times, not to mention prominent articles in Fortune, Rolling Stone, The Economist, Fast Company and many many more. I learned about these just by reading up on it online. It's all there. As for the homage, Barry Ptolemy is considered a new powerful director in Hollywood and I thought it would be cool to create a new page on him since no one had. You added a blatant, unabashed, unsourced advertisement to Transcendent Man in a section about "Transcendent Man LIVE". I have asked you to add independent sources for any and all material on this talk page. I am growing concerned that your account is only used to advertise and promote Barry Ptolemy and his work, and you have still not declared a COI as I requested.
