FA and GA tennis tournament articles

[edit]

Hi mate, I noticed your discussion on the tennis wikiproject about improving tennis articles to GA and FA status. I was wondering if you could help with some of the tournament articles, using the structure outlined here. Let me know on my talk page if you need any help. You could start with the articles for this year's WTA or ATP tournaments. 03md (talk) 23:18, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Peter bodo

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Peter bodo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Sorry about this. As you can see I made amends by fixing it. Please expand it and source it, but I think it is a good stub.--Cerejota (talk) 05:50, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Williams Sisters Rivalry

[edit]
You can use photos at Serena and Venus' categories at Commons for the article. DeMoN2009 20:45, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for creating Peter Bodo

[edit]

It was an article I had thought of doing, but I'm glad you did it. Nice job!

I see you're pretty new around here. One tip: use the refTools gadget. It makes creating neatly formatted citations really, really easy with only a little more effort than just pasting a link. Go to prefs->Gadgets to enable it and then you'll see the "CITE" button on your editing toolbar. I also recommend the wikEd editor, much better than the default text editor. But wikEd takes some time to get used to.

Cheers, mate. --Armchair info guy (talk) 22:40, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Venus and Serena rivalry

[edit]

Hi, you write a great page but there miss two matches: 2008 US Open QF and YEC RR. Would you like to add and make the page greater?

thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vswfan (talkcontribs) 20:18, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation

[edit]

A request for mediation has been filed with the Mediation Committee that lists you as a party. The Mediation Committee requires that all parties listed in a mediation must be notified of the mediation. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Miami Masters, and indicate whether you agree or disagree to mediation. If you are unfamiliar with mediation on Wikipedia, please refer to Wikipedia:Mediation. Please note there is a seven-day time limit on all parties responding to the request with their agreement or disagreement to mediation. Thanks, Yosef1987 (talk) 13:38, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble with user

[edit]

Hi there, I was wondering if you were still having problems with User:Tennis expert as I seem to be having. He has accused me of having sockpuppets (which I do not have) because some of my edits have been made before I have logged in i.e. through our IP address. He has also suggested that I am affiliated with musiclover123, a false allegation. On numerous occasions I have tried to leave messages concerning tennis on his talk page but he instantly reverts them, despite my requests being for the good of the wikiproject. My recent post was this:

"Hi mate, I have been working hard on individual year templates for the ATP Tour (e.g. Template:1990 ATP Tour, Grand Prix tennis circuit (e.g. Template:1985 Nabisco Grand Prix and WCT circuit (e.g. Template:1973 World Championship Tennis circuit as well as some WTA templates. The majority of the links on them should be accurate but I was wondering if you could check through the completed templates. Some pre-ATP era tournaments are simply recorded as "[Place name] Open" and I have also been unable to find some of the tournament sponsor names, such as the name of the San Francisco tournament known as the SAP Open. Thanks. 03md 23:03, 4 April 2009 (UTC)"[reply]

"By the way, could you stop reverting my attempts to get some positive feedback. I still have no idea why you were accusing me before and I only want to get a complete tennis history section. It has really put me off editing on here and feel that you have been ignoring WP:HUSH. Thanks. 03md 17:26, 6 April 2009 (UTC)"[reply]

If you have any knowledge of this period of tournaments it would be great if you could look at the templates as I am going to get nowhere with the other user. Cheers - let me know on my talkpage. 03md 07:58, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I've had problems with him/her as well. Try to assume good faith though, regardless. Like you, he accused me of being a sockpuppet (in a singular show of 'bad faith' IMO). Just understand that a) there have been NUMEROUS users that have had issues with him (this helped me realize it wasn't personal, just a way of communicating and editing; b) since the interactions were bothering me so much I have stopped directly engaging, and instead through edits, which I find more productive; and c) there is genuine desire to improve wiki articles on Mr. Expert's part, he/she's just a bit 'different' when it comes to what I call cooperative, civil interactions. So yeah, while it would be nice, if it's bothering you I'd avoid direct questions/suggestions and open them up instead to the tennis village at large. RfC

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you tried to start an RfC on the whole dispute. However, you need to put some comment in that section in an attempt to kick off the discussion. I think you might have just misread one part of the RfC instruction page.

Good luck with it and all, though. You'll notice that I've responded to your new thread at EAR, though so has Tennis Expert. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 10:00, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Serena Williams

[edit]

Hi Alonso. I think the best thing I can do is review the article from a GAN/FAC perspective to pick out what the community at large would say should the article ever be nominated. Another thing we can do is to take the article to peer review which would provide us with a completely outside view of the current state of the article. I'll go over the article at some point and leave some thoughts on the talk page. Right now, though, as identified by the maintenance tags, there's not much actually right with the article. It's a vast swath of proseline, the writing style is very far from "engaging" and the level of detail is way over the top, nothing like the summary style Wikipedia encourages. More soon. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:11, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For interest's sake, I've added Daniela Hantuchova to the peer review list to see what it's going to take to get the Tennis Wikiproject close to a GA/FA... Watch that space! The Rambling Man (talk) 16:13, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RFC

[edit]

It's worth sending out calling notices to everyone concerned in these disruptive edits so they are aware that an RFC is being conducted. Also, get your diffs ready. Let me know when you're up and running, and use User:Mendaliv for a good outside perspective as I guess most active tennis contributors would not be able to provide a completely balanced view if you get my drift... The Rambling Man (talk) 18:08, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Be sure and let me know when you start this. I have been compiling evidence about the behavior of yourself and certain others that should be considered in the RFC, too. Thanks. Tennis expert (talk) 19:06, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure you'll be the first to know Tennis expert! The Rambling Man (talk) 19:07, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That should be a perfectly adequate starting point. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:27, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, got the note. Fill in the RFC and I'll join in when required. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:44, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, Alonso, when providing diffs, you want to change "oldid=" to "diff="; that way you can see what changed between the edits and what the edit summary was. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 20:02, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're fine to fill those out yourself. Just the outside view and responses sections are for others to write as far as I can tell. If all else fails, give Mendaliv a shout? The Rambling Man (talk) 20:05, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added an outside view already... I genuinely hope this RfC can help get Tennis expert to contribute more constructively. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 21:44, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and another thing; you're going to want to list the RfC at WP:RFC/U, I think in the "Candidate pages" section for now. I suggest following the pattern of the RfCs in the Approved pages section for listing it on that page. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 00:16, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please see Mendaliv's talk page for my pointer about diffs. Ncmvocalist (talk) 15:46, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tennis format subpage

[edit]

I've just placed my opening suggestion for the format of a highly notable singles tennis player in Wikipedia article form on a personal subpage, at User:Ordinary Person/Tennis article format. As the discussion on tennis articles progesses, please feel free to update that subpage to reflect new consensus or suggestions. At a number of places, I have placed the word "discuss" in bold, to draw attention to particular points that I think we should find agreement on.Ordinary Person (talk) 01:09, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. As a significant contributor to this article during its recent drive towards WP:FAC, I'm just posting a quick reminder to say, firstly, great work and, secondly, please continue with the great work. We're pretty close to a nomination and further help, particularly with citations on playing style, may just help clinch it. All the best. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:18, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good golly...

[edit]

I don't think I had seen this AfD before you posted about it to the ANI thread: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Williams Sisters rivalry. The more I find in the backstory of Tennis expert's treatment of sockpuppets, the more amazed I get. I don't get his seemingly-instantaneous bad faith assumption that you're Musiclover565. I'm... extremely disappointed in his manner of treating inexperienced users (not intended as a dig at you, of course). The more I look into this new matter that I've been exploring, the more I feel it's intricately connected to the issues at RfC. But... I have no idea where to proceed at this point. What are your thoughts? —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 19:11, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tennis Wikitables!

[edit]

The wikitables for the U.S. Open and the Australian Open do not match, and need to be changed to be in line with wikipedia's consistency standards. The navbox and infobox for the Australian are in yellow yet in the wikitables they are blue, and the U.S. Open the navbox and infobox is blue yet in the wikitables it is yellow. This is inconsistent usage of color if color is to be applied on wikipedia it has to be consistent. The new wikitables say on the Serena Williams and Pete Sampras pages do not match the others and need to be reverted back to have wins in the top and the runner's up in the lower. Not all condenced into one wikitable. This can and could be rather confusing to the un-trained eye. Wikipedia is about making content accessible and easily readable to the user and the experienced editors on here. The lack of standards when it comes to the Tennis Project and articles needs to be made mainstreamed like the Golf Project is doing to their articles. Thanks for listening! Murray Masters wins

[edit]

You may be confusing the "different" masters wins for Murray. If you look at This Chart you'll see Murray has won 4 different masters events. Some have changed names and locations through the years. Specifically the Madrid/Hamburg masters is different than the Shanghai/Madrid masters. There were two different madrid masters and they are linked to specific masters events. I hope that helps. Fyunck(click) (talk) 09:03, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gah! Amateur move! :-/ Haha. Thanks for the help. I was a little frustrated, as I didn't see any discussion about changes on the discussion page. The Hamburg/Madrid/Shanghai switch still throws me. Thanks! AlonsornunezComments
