Names

[edit]

The point you made w.r.t. Bismarck Sea has been shifted to a note and made more neutral. You can do more research as to when various languages changed the name if you wish to improve the note. I have a CoI as relatives Polish so might not have made changes neutral enough to please some. ChaseKiwi (talk) 17:11, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 23:20, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

UPA article

[edit]

Would you be able to look at one issue in the UPA article, I wrote about this on the talk page there, but no long-term editor removed it, and since you edited the Wołyń Massacre article you are probably familiar with the topic. There is a section called Commemoration in Ukraine and in it there is a picture of Ukrainian minority in Przemyśl with UPA flags. This should be removed because Przemyśl is not in Ukraine. I don't understand why no one responded and fixed it because this is really obvious inacuracy. 94.172.109.57 (talk) 10:10, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I just noticed that on Massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia someone changed the intro to the article, which contains made up terms: "The Massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia (Polish: rzeź wołyńska), also known as the Volhynian tragedy (Ukrainian: Воли́нська траге́дія, romanized: Volynsʹka trahediya), the Volhynian–Galician slaughter (Polish: rzeź wołyńsko-galicyjska)". In Polish the name is "Volhynian slaughter" not "Volhynian–Galician slaughter". Also, this should be moved up, not sure why you have "(Polish: rzeź wołyńska)" right after Massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia with out what happened to lit. 'Volhynian slaughter' in bold letters. --94.172.109.57 (talk) 13:44, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yeah, I agree that the name should be "Volhynian massacre" not "Massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia". Also, Volhynian–Galician massacre is also used in Polish, it's just less popular (but is for example used by IPN and some historians), and in English, term "rzeź" is translated to "massacre" and not to more direct "slaughter". And going back to the first message. I think you are right that a picture from Ukraine would be more appropriate. I guess the picture of Przemysl was simply used becouse it shows the point author tried to make (shows Ukrainian demonstrators celebrating UPA). And, I think Przemysl had this kind of celebrations is becouse while it's in Poland, it is right on Ukrainian border, and has quite sizable Ukrainian minority. And, also, I should point out that I'm probably not the best person to ask, as I'm not really an expert on Volhynian massacre or WW2 history in general. I only have passing knowledge of it. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 13:58, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for looking into the above listed issues, as for the UPA article, I'm a bit concerned that there are some undertones to that image from Przemyśl, as some far-right Ukrainian nationalist groups claim that Przemyśl should be part of Ukraine, that is why I think this image should be taken out. The section only talks about "Commemoration in Ukraine" and the actual text only covers that aspect, and not in other places where Ukrainians are found like Poland, Canada or even the US. I would call the inclusion of that image rather controversial. --94.172.109.57 (talk) 14:03, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just to close my comment, I think Wikipedia should avoid such inaccuracies, at the most basic level the image is not directly referenced in the text and is out of place, that's all. So, this is just a editorial fix. --94.172.109.57 (talk) 14:28, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
