Comments needed: Bushmaster Firearms International debate

[edit]

Thanks Brend.Brincken for your comments on the Talk:Bushmaster Firearms International page. Now your words are needed on the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard to win this debate. Best wishes, --Zeamays (talk) 13:15, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information, but I have been involved in discussion on the Bushmaster M4 Type Carbine article, not the company's one. May common sense prevail. --Bernd.Brincken (talk) 17:13, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Once an article is tagged, we don't unilaterally remove tags without talk-page consensus. That section has issues that need to be addressed. I suggest that proper protocol is to go the WP:FILM talk page and ask editors to join the discussion. --Tenebrae (talk) 04:42, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vin Number

[edit]

Editor Bernd.Brincken the VIN Number / Model Prefix you included to the Honda CBR600F has been removed. You might want to take this to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Motorcycling to see if there is a consensus for including this content. Though I have not seen this on any other motorcycle article. It appears to be only shown in european parts lists. Cheers -72bikers (talk) 21:33, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for notifying me: User_talk:Bernd.Brincken#Vin_Number. The german article de:Honda_CBR_600 describes exactly the same models as the english Honda CBR600F. - So why did you remove the VIN number from the article? --Bernd.Brincken (talk) 21:45, 25 November 20 (UTC)
Again I do not claim to know everything, but it is my understanding that what the German Wiki chooses to do has no bearing on what the English Wiki chooses to do. From briefly looking at motorcycle articles there, some appear to be poorly sourced and riddled with errors and inaccuracies. I again would like to point out that if you would go here Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Motorcycling. I am sure someone could perhaps explain this in more detail for your understanding. Cheers-72bikers (talk) 00:28, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What are you talking about? The purpose of the VIN number is to connect articles about the same topic between different language versions in the Wikipedia project. That is the case here with de:Honda_CBR_600 and en:Honda CBR600F. The content and sources of the articles is not for discussion here (and you are free to improve where you see room for improvement). Please restrain from reverting articles when you do not understand the effect. --Bernd.Brincken (talk) 12:59, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Please keep the conversation here or at the article. And again please go here Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Motorcycling so that you might get a better understanding of this. Cheers -72bikers (talk) 14:36, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the choice on which WP page to copy Q and A, I just followed your pattern. And no, sorry, I ask you to answer my question if you edit an article, instead of pointing away to project sites. --Bernd.Brincken (talk) 18:04, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I honestly have no idea what you are trying to say. Possibly because this is not your native language there is a language barrier perhaps? Again as plainly as I can say, if you are wishing to change how thing are done here, you need to start a conversation about this on the article page. Or even better here Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Motorcycling, and read this Wikipedia:Manual of Style, Wikipedia:WikiProject Motorcycling/Conventions. Cheers-72bikers (talk) 01:56, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Remark by the owner of this talk page:

Well organized campaign ... :)
Let me get this clear: You call it vandalism when someone invites me on my talk page to join a certain 'Task Force'? Was someone attacked or harrassed? Who (except me)? --Bernd.Brincken (talk)
No one called it vandalism. It was pointed out to you it was block evasion. Any editor is free to revert block evaders on any page. You'll have to deal with the fact that no, editors don't get to control everything about their talk pages. --NeilN talk to me 17:31, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There seems to be a person behind the 'block evader'. We have no biometricaly proven identities on WP. I chose to use my real name, you decided to use a pseudonym, we are free in this aspect, for a good reason. If the 'block evader' wanted to overcome the block, he could use a different network, or VPN etc. Sorry, I really do not see the point in your enthusiam to trace his actions. --Bernd.Brincken (talk) 20:03, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
When a person is blocked, they are no longer welcome to edit here so if they evade their block, their posts are simply removed and ignored. Not sure why this is hard to understand. You can restore the removal or take action because of their posts but do it often enough and an admin might decide you are proxying for a blocked user and take appropriate measures. --NeilN talk to me 20:39, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You can block a WP user, but not a person. Otherwise, WP would need some way to uniquely identify a person, for example via biometric parameters. This was AFAIK never proposed. For a reason. Try to understand the grounds you are working on. --Bernd.Brincken (talk) 20:59, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

IP Block

[edit]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Bernd.Brincken (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. My IP address is 178.62.85.103. It is from a commercial VPN service (HeadVPN). Bernd.Brincken (talk) 09:36, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Using a VPN to edit Wikipedia is not permitted, as vandals use VPNs to evade detection and blocking. You will have to turn your VPN off if you want to edit. 331dot (talk) 10:05, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Since you have an account, your actual IP is not visible to the general public, only 44 Wikipedia users known as Checkusers could see it in certain circumstances; only highly trusted and vetted users are given that authority and can only use it in certain circumstances, and cannot reveal specific information. 331dot (talk) 10:08, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Security authorities like BSI in Germany actively promote the use of VPN on the internet.
But Wikipedia assumes that 'vandals use VPNs to evade detection and blocking'.
The assumption is obviously wrong. --Bernd.Brincken (talk) 10:16, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DS Alert climate change

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in climate change. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

NPA warning

[edit]

Information icon Please do not attack other editors, as you did at Climate change denial. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 16:24, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

PS

[edit]

If you really think there is a sock puppet issue, see WP:Sockpuppetry and follow the advice therein. In the meantime, you could demonstrate civility by apologizing and asking the other ed if it would be OK to strike that part of your comment. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 16:24, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, the term 'sock puppet' was provided by WP, see the user-links in my message: Talk:Climate_change_denial#Translation_from_Germany --Bernd.Brincken (talk) 16:58, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
PS, if you consider my discussion post as an NPA case, how do you value this comment: [1]? --Bernd.Brincken (talk) 17:05, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a nobody (not an admin) so please don't "report" to me. If you have a beef about anything in the climate pages, just follow WP:ARBCC#Principles and use the tools available at dispute resolution. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 18:21, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, it was you who started this thread. --Bernd.Brincken (talk) 20:07, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Now you removed my humble request to clarify your PA accusation from your talk page. Is that the style of communication you believe to calm disputes in WP? Throwing WP:-hints on other editors and disappearing when it comes to sort things out? Looks very similar to this strategy:
