Answering Christianity

Hi! I added this link because this is one of my favorite religious websites and I felt that it contains a lot of interesting materials. Some of its contents may be indeed offensive to Christians, but its goal is to spread the Truth. Schools selection

I have a quick question - how are articles selected? Are they all featured articles, or are there some good articles? The reason I ask is that looking at, for example, the television section, I notice that nearly 2/3rds of the articles there are sci-fi series. Perhaps a future release should have some editorial oversight, selecting a few good articles that haven't reached featured status but would balance coverage somewhat? I don't really count words. Check this story for an average-length article, but we've had much shorter articles as well as longer articles; it's not a problem. On the TV thing, as long as you've excerpted featured and good, then it'd seem that it's just a matter of systemic bias on Wikipedia television articles; not a problem with you, really. workforall spammer

Thanks for watching over my talk page. I saw you deleted the latest rant from the workforall spammer.

I suppose that he/she will likely return -- I suggest just leaving future rants on my talk page in place (other than deleting something like a bogus vandalism warning). I'm finding that sometimes it works better just to let a spammer have the last word if the encyclopedia otherwise is getting its way (i.e., no more links). I'm coming to view those sorts of comments almost as stamps in my passport. Perhaps this guy will just wind down. Otherwise, I'll archive the page June 1 and he can start over.

In the meantime, he's really doing himself a disservice; see this discussion that Jehochman and I had about the jam this guy is working his way into. Do Google searches on workforall (#6), workforall.org (#3), and workforall.net (#3) and you'll see what I mean. Between that and the fire-parrot, this is shaping up to be bizarre. --A. disclaimer regarding the workforall spammer

The issues with this spammer were brought to my attention. WorkForAll.org has nothing to do with workforall.net for similar reasons as you exclude him as a spammer. The person is called Paul Vreymans (which is also an alias) and made himself persona non grata in our WorkForAll thinktank. He has some serious personality issues and does not understand well the difference between what he thinks is right and the right way to defend that position. He set up that workforall.net website independently, hereby stealing the name and reputation, and started filling it himself. Some of the contents are acceptable, some of it not. At Workforall.org we apply ourselves peer-review before anything at all is published and opinions are based as much as possible on facts and data. Unfortunately we can't do much against his behavior except as you do, trying to isolate him. He does indeed do himself and our group who apply correct deontological rules a disservice. It is indeed bizarre as well but unfortunately irrational behaviour is difficult to fight with rational arguments. I just happened to see this note you left BozMo. You may wish to leave a similar note on the 35 to 45 pages around Wikipedia that document problems with workforall spam on Wikipedia. If you go to User talk:Bully-Buster-007, you'll see links to the 31 other user talk pages for IP accounts that were used to either spam Wikipedia or to complain and harass people. I'd leave this note on the Bully-Buster talk page and on each of those other pages. Then you might consider leaving a similar note on the talk pages of each of the editors that interacted with him that are listed there. I also suggest you leave similar notes at:

• Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents
• meta:Talk:Spam blacklist

Finally, you may want to note the unusual claim made at "[Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam#The workforall.net spammer meets the sandbox fire-parrot -- for everything else, there's Mastercard]." This individual accused Wikipedia of engineering computer vandalism using viruses embedded in pornography; this in turn allegedly set a workforall computer on fire destroying a portion of workforall's offices. Supposedly a complaint was made to the police.

I am very glad that I read Eric Verhulst's message. It helps somewhat to explain the strangeness and wild behavior we've encountered. I suggest that we avoid using the hijacked and generic workforall term and instead use the formal workforall.net term in an effort to help aid in the disambiguation. This also brings up the question of how much of this case is simply WP:COI spamming vs. a twisted and revengeful joe job? (Requestion 17:47, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

the UK National Curriculum?

Hi young Andrew, looks good to me, but a niggle which I've also posted at the talk page for of News and Notes. Despite Alex Salmond forming an administration, we're likely to be in the UK for a while yet –

Perhaps being a bit pedantic, but then we're here to teach.... there's no such thing as "the UK National Curriculum" – the National Curriculum is used in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but not to education in Scotland, as is clearly shown in Education in the United Kingdom. Thanks, I think a minor wording change meets my comment, no rush. There does seem to be current curriculum guidance, well hidden, but apparently we're in the throes of a massive reorganisation including a new Curriculum for Excellence. As far as I know, the Wikipedia pages should be equally useful in Scotland, though references to "key stages" will presumably be disregarded. That website has a Contact us page with email addresses – if you like, I can email them and ask if they or anyone they know would like to work on making sure the Wikipedia Selection for Schools meets any different needs of the Scottish curriculum. Yes sorry. I realised I'd got the edit summary wrong but you cannot change those... I meant to refer to User_talk:UBeR#Extraterrestrial_atmospheres. Part of the contents of the deleted articles was used to restart another article. Someone complained that under our licence the contributers to this piece had become untraceable. I did not create this new article and am neutral whether it should be AfDed or even speedied. When I went there it had neither AfD nor speedy tags and its edit history was lost. All I did was make it licence compliant by changing the way it was constructed and also make it transparent as the recreation of a old deleted article so the community could decide better. Of course you could not tell this by looking at it except if you can see the delete logs since I had to delete UBeR's creation in order to move the old article on top of it. --BozMo talk 06:48, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

MobyGames

I apologize for not responding earlier, but I'm forced to postpone major editing while I go through my exams at university. The MobyGames issue, though I'm not entirely in the know, is a difficult one and the editors in question are making it a chore to sift through the mounds of useless MG game profiles. As I mentioned on Mathsgeek's talk page, though, many of those that are removed contain an abundance of information and content, some of which (especially screenshots and trivia) usually can't be found in the Wiki article itself. Unfortunately, time constraints prevent me from helping out in a major way at the moment, but I'd be glad to start looking through the MG entries and separate the valuable from the worthless. Frankly, I think reviewing each game individually be a number of editors would be equivalent to drudging through them much too slowly; I'm open to suggestions on what criteria should be agreed upon when it comes to what is needed for a MG entry to be added to an article. If mine seem OK to you, I'll follow them for the time being, if you don't mind. Finally, I'm not sure if the editors who keep adding links to MobyGames have been warned, but they should, even if they are acting in good faith (which I generally assume). So, in conclusion, MobyGames has the potential to be a very valuable and useful resource as well as, in some cases, a brief outline of the reviews a given game received in the press, but empty MG profiles are just superfluous. I'll try to begin working on the things I mentioned in the coming days, but I will only be completely free after June 26th. I hope we'll manage to clean up these articles and make the content more encyclopedic than it currently is. Regards, Cromag ^{talk to me} 22:09, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

PS Quick comment. The discussion at WP:SPAM seems to suggest that consensus has been reached regarding a TfD nomination. Understandably, it would be extremely difficult to manually sort through all the MG links, but removing the template will obliterate all the instances in which said template was used correctly. Consequently, if I'm not mistaken (and I might well be), we wouldn't be able to know which are which; it would take at least as much hard work to restore the links that seem to be useful as to review and remove or keep them one by one. But I suppose majority consensus takes precedence, so I'll not protest on WP:SPAM; most of the several dozen adventure game pages on my watchlist have useful info in their MobyGames profiles, so I'll restore the links those where applicable if the decision to delete the template goes through. 2007 CD selection torrent

I am sure it is not broken. I have tried downloading with Firefox, IE and wget. All work. What does happen is in Firefox if you left click on it (rather than right click and Save Link As... as the instructions suggest) it gives you an error ("... because the source file could not be read"). Update: seems to be a combination of the default Apache 2.2 configuration and Firefox. Apache was (incorrectly in this case) sending a "Content-Encoding: x-gzip" header. I have turned this off for .gz.torrent files now. See if it makes any difference for you. DuncanHarris 22:37, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Mobygames

Your summary at COIN is good. :) The entries Dave Ellis (game designer) and maybe Otogi seem like suitable examples for discussion? (unless you'd like to pick some from Wikipedia:Featured articles#Computers and video games ;)

The issue I'd most appreciate your input on, is whether adding 3 templates at once (e.g. this edit) is a) standard practice, b) polite, and if it's not, I'd request that someone remove 2 of them from the IP pages that havent done so themselves (TnS has). (leaving either the level 4 (most blunt) or level 2 (most informative), I don't care which. I just think that 3 at once is overkill and badfaith/rude). (I don't wish to antagonize Requestion, hence I'm not answering his remarks at the end of that thread, and am requesting that you clarify this issue for us.) Getting clarity on the wikiquette of editing-rule-violation notification, would be the outcome I am seeking.

I also replied further at User talk:Quiddity#Feedback. Thoughts welcome.

And lastly (just a sidenote) I'm curious as to what/if anything Raul654 had to say about the issue. I noticed he closed the TfD and that there was an email exchange between you at around the same time, but he didn't comment publicly. I'm obviously not asking you to divulge his private remarks, but rather I'm wondering if any new/good points were raised, and should I bother him with a request for comment? Global Warming inlinks

Please accept my apologies in advance for answering your queries here. And also asking you a question.

Hi Bozmo, I didn't realise you were an admin, I left a query as to why you object to having 'Live Earth' inlinked on the GW article. My reasons have nothing to do with 'google anchoring', I'm only vaguely aware of what that entails...something to do with google search I believe. If that is the case it wasn't my intention. I simply wanted to provide "an example" of raising awareness. I believe, that that particular event which was global in scale, was a good example of "groups" raising awareness and duly went ahead and interlinked it using "corporate media" which was in itself contested and changed to "musicians" and then "entertainers". Fine, but it was still deleted. Why? Spamming doesn't seem to be an issue on this article 1984 - 1985 famine in Ethiopia, an article about (obviously) the famine in the 80's that has a section covering a global musical event that "raised awareness" about the issue (I merely added a link on the GW article). Would adding an inlink still be problamatic after bringing this to your attention?

As for me "not trusting scientists" - That is simply not true. I just happen to lean toward the scientists that would seem to be in the minority.

As for "wanting to know" what gives me comfort. My faith, my wife, my child. When I first stumbled on wikipedia and created an account I was more than a little soapboxy, but that isn't what wikipedia is for and I realise this now. Having experienced some abuse myself by of all people a teacher, I took things a little personally on certain issues when I shouldn't have, that demon I got over myself.

Also, your "edit summary" (milk and biscuits) lol, something to do with me being childish. Well, it can all get childish now and then, so I'll leave it at that, nobody is pure in that department, we're all human. third opinion

hello BozMo, could you step in on this discussion (earlier discussed here, pertaining to this section)? we are going around in circles. i am demanding sources to verify the claim of persecution; Matt57 is demanding his personal argument be addressed. i'm not willing to address personal analyses because it's got nothing to do with whether material is verified; and Matt57 is not willing to provide sources backing up his claim (for reasons i know not). thanks in advance. Boz, the process had not been given it's full run. It was acrimonious, but there were issues that had been raised and not addressed. The review period is not intended for keep and remove. Marskell 11:45, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for the mess, Raymond. And now to complicate matters more, I was re-opening it just as Marskell was moving it to archive, and our posts "crossed in the night". It's important that the process be respected, not so much for this article, but so that FAC doesn't degenerate into a free-for-all.
