Hi, you suggested I should expand the above article if I wanted it to make it to DYK. I have done some work on it, what do you think now? Blood Red Sandman Open Up Your Heart - Receive My EviLove 18:03, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Swedbank-logo.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Swedbank-logo.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. DYK

[edit]

Why on earth did you add Hurricane Bob when it wasn't even qualified for DYK?

Nah, I'm just kidding around. I removed Hurricane Bob after a user informed me that the article was already significant (it was around 7KB, definitely not a stub) nearly a month ago, and the significant expansion this week would not qualify it for DYK. In the future, please look at the article history to make sure a user did not mistakenly nominate an ineligible item for DYK. Nishkid64 19:29, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I did read that. That would qualify as an expansion/rewrite, as the article already existed before January 23. It was pretty long even then, and that means it does not qualify for DYK. I don't think Art went back to look at the article history, and just apologized because he thought he made an error. Nishkid64 20:06, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was already in the mainspace. What the user did was just a rewrite of the article, and since the previous state was not a stub, the article does not qualify for DYK. Nishkid64 20:14, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it looks good. Trust your own judgement! I'm just a noob. Shaundakulbara 22:33, 30 January 2007 (UTC) The hook is kind of ambiguous though. "Considered" is kind of a weasle word. What about:[reply]

  • Bart King was called "America's greatest cricketing son"?

The quote is referenced. Shaundakulbara 22:37, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bart King: Interesting and a well sourced article! But unfortunately - I'm afraid - too old for WP:DYK... according to these rules. And there doesn't seem to be much room for derogation right now. Please, keep ut the good work anyway! --Camptown 23:07, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for posting this on my page. I misread the requirements. I knew that adding 1,000 characters was good for inclusion, but I didn't know that it had to start as a stub. Hopefully I'll get it on the mainpage soon as an FA :) Thanks again.--Eva bd 03:44, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DYK updates - expired noms

[edit]

Please do not take expired nominations (January 29) and add to the Next updates. DYK rules require that the articles be no more than 5 days old. Many articles did not get featured from Jan 28 and Jan 29 due to the long list and infrequent updating. — ERcheck (talk) 21:43, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The rules clearly state 5 days. I've discussed this with a very active DYK admin (see my talk page). Though nominated, not all articles get featured. Unfortunately, if there are long lags between updates, some articles will expire. — ERcheck (talk) 21:49, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please discuss on the DYK talk page. — ERcheck (talk) 21:54, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel some selections (from the unexpired nominations) are unfair, feel free to discuss and replace with unexpired selection(s). Again, see the talk page for reaching consensus on a rules change. — ERcheck (talk) 21:58, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The criteria is that the articles should be over 1000 characters. The articles that I added, though short, did meet the criterion. — ERcheck (talk) 22:04, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I do not have time to revert the changes. I was about to do an update when you started making a lot of changes. Now, RL intervenes and I can't do it. I would ask that you honor the process and return the expired nominations and chose from the unexpired nominations. The "short" articles that I added were from Jan 30 and I was attempting to make a more frequent update so more articles would not expire. I would hope you would return the ones that I added in Good Faith, for example the Sego lily, with picture, which I had just protected for updating. — ERcheck (talk) 22:07, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
To my knowledge there are no rules on length of article and picture. The lily picture is an excellent picture that perfectly represents the article. — ERcheck (talk) 22:14, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Updated DYK query Did you know? was updated. On 4 February, 2007, a fact from the article Berlin Stadtbahn, which you recently nominated, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. -- Nice find! GeeJo (t)(c) • 23:30, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Andrew-Fire.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

(Ditto for Craig Mello. These images are nice, but they're just portraits; they don't show anything irreplaceable about their winning the Nobel.) Opabinia regalis 01:27, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: DYK

[edit]

Concerning nomination dates, I commented on the talk page.

BTW, you returned the Yipsi Moreno article to the Suggestions page (March 7) on the grounds that it needed to be reviewed. I did review it, and returned it to the next update in place of newer articles. After checking the preview, the DYK column was too long, so I returned two to the top fothe March 8 section.

I've reverted the changes you made to the Teresa Cheung article again. I thought I'd covered it in my edit summary, but perhaps not. In any case:

  • The flag — Although I certainly follow your logic on this, I've also never seen an outdated flag used in this way in an infobox before. When I looked into it, I saw there was no requirement for a flag in the actor infobox, and on the talk page there was some agreement that flags should not be used in this way. So I removed the flag altogether because either way it probably shouldn't be there.
  • Citations — The first citation was for the exact date of birth. Normally I wouldn't bother, but I could only find it on that one site and it also seems to contradict the date of birth on the Chinese Wiki article, so I felt it necessary. The second citation was specifically regarding the two children from her marriage, which is not mentioned elsewhere in the article. The marriage itself is adequately covered by other sources.

We can certainly discuss this further if you like, but I'd rather not keep changing the article back and forth. PC78 12:42, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:DYK

[edit]

I didn't make the change. Also, the source must be provided for all images. We don't "imply" licensing; it must be added or it can be deleted. Nishkid64 19:41, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see no point in changing it now. Licensing tags have been added, but then what's the point of swapping the image if the current one is perfectly fine? Nishkid64 19:56, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Муромцев.jpg

[edit]

Right, but Ghirlandajo does have a point. If the man died in 1910, the image is almost certainly PD, and flagging it for being unsourced seems counterproductive. Biruitorul 22:32, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

[edit]

Hi Camptown,

Recently you left a note on my talk page saying that there is a DYK rule stating that a dispute concerning a suggestion extends that entry's "life span" by another five days. I assumed that was correct, of course, even though I've never seen this rule. However, ALoan soon commented that he also knew nothing of it. So I'm asking you: where exactly is this rule written?

-- Carabinieri 19:41, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That hook was never disputed. I just generally turn a blind eye to entries being expired by one day, if they were suggested a few days before their expiry and if they look good. Do you think that's a problem?-- Carabinieri 21:21, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I trust you!

[edit]

Thanks! Sorry for bothering you. Sincerely, Mattisse 15:52, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Camptown - thanks so much for changing the pic on the DYK hook. You're quite right, it is a much better picture - what was I thinking? Mad Jasper! Jasper33 19:16, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bloody hell, if this carries on they're going to have to widen my front door so I can get my head through! Seriously - are you serious? I'm (relatively) new to all this malarkey so haven't a clue what it needs to improve it. Can you give me some pointers? I've had a lot of help from User:Grant65: all comments welcome! Jasper33 21:10, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, now I'm worried! I read The Four Stages of Cruelty when it was on the front page and thought it was really exceptional and truly fabulous - I don't reckon Batu Lintang camp is anywhere near that state of fabulosity! Besides, you say they had a team - there's just me and my reference books and lovely Grant65. Apart from a couple more images to upload, I kind of think I've stuck all that seems pertinent in already - does that mean improvement would be a matter of detail rather than new content? I'm a little worried that the amount of detail on the radio overbalances it - I had thought of hoicking that bit out as a separate article. I'm also very concerned about POV - as I explained to Grant, my grandparents were in the camp so it's hard to remain objective. That really worries me, as I want the article to be balanced, but to be honest there hasn't been much in any of my references that makes the Japanese come out looking good. Presumably I'd need to put the article through peer review and then GA candicacy first, before going for FA? Sorry about all the idiotic questions. Jasper33 22:05, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LOL yeah I know what you mean about the essay style - split into n number of sections and loads of quotes. It's because I'm not very good at/don't feel qualified to draw conclusions from the evidence, so I prefer to slap in loads of quotes and let the reader draw their own conclusions. Lazy Jasper! And as for sensitive issues - I suppose all the counter-arguments are going to be in Japanese sources and I have zero chance of reading those. I'll just have to hope an interested Japanese editor happens by the page. Thanks for all your comments, Camptown - it's given me lots to mull over. Cheers Jasper33 22:56, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Hancocks-Half-Hour.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hancocks-Half-Hour.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
